It has always been closed to the public as far as I know, sucks, but I see why they do it.

Glad I noticed that.  I was one click away from buying my plane tickets and reserving my room at the Bellagio.

Don't tease me friend.  If you know something, spill it.  IM works and OPSEC is my middle name.

All I wanted for 2011 was a Shot Show 2011 dillo.

I even posted a thread about it.

Everyone ignored me.

Attendance RESTRICTED to the shooting, hunting and outdoor trade and commercial buyers and sellers of military, law enforcement and tactical products and services ONLY. NO one under age 16 admitted (including infants).

I seem to recall that you make "Tactical" products. Isn't that correct? So, maybe you are going to meet new vendors. Not solicit, but maybe do research for a future booth yourself.

I would call to verify. Can't hurt to ask.

And many do ...

The issue is that industry folks pay big money to get a location to talk higher up stuff with dealers, reps, manufacturers, etc...

But some sneaky rascals know a brother-in-law with a neighbor that ain't goin' but has an FFL and he gets them tickets in and holy hell, if the red carpet isn't rolled out to them with all the fineries ...

I have the distinction of having been called - on the World Wide Web no less -  "The Biggest Asshole at the Shotshow" ... as I was a little slow on the uptake handing out the dillos.

Not interested in going for the swag.  I'm more interested in the knowledge I'd gain and the people I'd meet.  There's no substitute for the mark one eyeball in judging a product or a person's character.   There are a number of vendors, LaRue Tactical among others, who have gone above and beyond in their service to me and it would be nice to be able to shake their hands and say thanks.   If being able to accomplish that mission meant that I couldn't have any dillos, t-shirts, or other widgets that would not be a sacrifice at all in my eyes.

I get your point though.  If I make it I promise I won't take up any of your time.  I'll be...... covert

Covert is the key ...

We are there to talk to warfighters and OEM manufactuers ... if I had a dime for every time I was deep in a conversation with folks that folks don't talk about, when suddenly a face I don't know from Adam forces itself in between me and the folks I'm about to hit the mark on -  " Mr. LaRue, can you tell me everything you plan to do but haven't announced yet ? I will gladly volunteer my service to tag along and run interference for the LT booth, so y'all can do important stuf.
Jut give me a handful of talking points ahead of time and let me hand out the Dillos and business cards and you won't have to worry about talking to the freeloaders.

X 3!  I think it would so cool to get a sneak peak at what's coming down the road.  Also to visit vendors to put faces with names and to learn stuff.  All in a polite non-douche manner.  I've been to a few Pack Expos in Chicago and there was so much technology on display it took days to wander.  It was a fine time for Booth Babes too.  And to be honest, yeah, a little swag.  A little freebie from your favorite manufacturer is pretty cool and goes a long way.

Did I also mention I'd work for free for getting me in?

I usually find a way to sneak in every couple years just to see what is new. I try to not bother anyone but I have organized a couple group buys with my FFL.

My FFL doesn't want to spend his vacation time at a industry show, real small shop, so I go instead and bring him up to date on the vaporware of this year.

Group buy on glock carbines this year!

I am the luckiest SOB that has been to shot show in the last 5 years, Trust me I can provide details. Last 2 years now I even go on a media badge and its awesome the carpet that is rolled out for us. That said I only do gear reviews aimed at my demographic which doesn't include guns.

What does that mean? I spend time talking to gear vendors asking questions based on stuff I see in the press kits, stuff in the booths, and the occasional press conference. I am willing to take up and think I deserve a couple of minutes of those vendors time since I have relevant questions. BUT for the gun booths, and this included Larue, I drool over stuff, finger bang the cool guns, and talk to the booth dudes ONLY, ONLY if they are not busy with other people. I spent 30 min at Knights booth playing with the PDW but made sure I wasn't in the way of anyone who might be dropping $1mil on some order. I talked to a camelback rep for a bit until one of his underlings tapped him on the shoulder to place an order. I looked at the guys and said "Go make the big bucks" and he said "thanks for knowing the game".

So if you get in on that sisters, brothers, neighbors, cousin's FFL have fun but be sure and stay out of the buyers way because we may be drooling but those guys are putting the food in their kids mouths that week

You need to hire some body doubles to act as chaff around your booth.
