I didn't talk to him about his set-up because lines were long and I didn't want to take up shooting time. What kind of optic did he have on there I wonder? It was really cool. So ... we cooked 120 briskets (took days), brought 1,800 sausages, we went through 6,000 brisket and/or sausage wraps at a burn rate of 840 per hour, God knows how many waters and cokes and not to forget the ice truck, 40,000 rounds or so of ammo, time and a half for a bunch of LaRue employees, extra event insurance costs, money to the Range, a big donation to the RO's club, turned 40 brand new LaRue rifles into 40 used rifles, gave away three (3) rifles (including one used on TopShot), made custom targets, flew folks in (some might have seen Todd Hodnett hanging around), etc., etc., etc. and just late today got it all policed-up and back in the barn. $3,000 bucks in miscellaneous restaurant costs, a mess of hotel rooms for the folks we flew in, along with their plane fare. No, nuttin' to it. Oh, did I say we ain't in the event or restaurant business, we just winged it. Listed to this one... I felt the same way. I had been there last year and I was completely happy with paying $10, but I didn't want to get the shooters badge as I felt it was too high. And Honestly, I shot several times throughout the day, without a shooters badge - they didn't check them. For me, I was there to purchase magpul furniture for my AR. They didn't sell anything, and that was aggravating. I asked one of the Magpul guys why they were not selling, and in summary he seemed to be hinting that Larue felt like they were overshadowing their products. I got the impression Larue didn't want Magpul to sell at their event. But, he hinted about a magpul range day.
What an asshole. They are all complaining about waiting times, something tells me there is nothing you can do about that as it seems like the even grew exponentially from last year. I would have gladly waited an hour just to play with a PVS-14 or a thermal scope. As there is no way I'm getting one of those any time soon

Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile Rifle was a PredatAR (flat down the rails w/o any extra built in angle for long distance shooting like the OBR) and with a heavier OBR barrel and a surefire brake, all set to run a suppressor. Scope was a Leupold Mark 8 , awesome piece of glass - he said $3600 - and Costa must get a heck of a discount because all the ones I have priced are 4k and up Costa did nothing but sing the praises of Larue rifles. ie, how every one's Larue would run the same as his with out having to be tweaked. If you didn't stop and talk to him you missed out. He also sold me on the canted back up sight idea.... $30 entry fee was cheap compared to the amount of money I now want to spend

If you've ever had a kid run off in the store, a quick trip to the toy department will usually lead to you finding them quickly. Here, they'd be surrounded by shooting ranges with bullets whizzing downrange (although I'd be pretty sure the ROs would catch a wayward kid pretty quickly). Just something to keep in mind when planning a trip. |

I was a little put out that my kid couldn't attend this year..HOWEVER...I am now glad that he stayed at home...While last year was crowded enough...this year was much more so...and my Dad couldn't be there to keep the little guy entertained while I was in line. I completely understand and agree with the 12 and over rule...I missed the hell outta the little guy...but I understand...and one day he will too. Here's a few pics of him at last years LT3G...

He did find his way up onto a berm...I mean he is a kid...and it IS a big pile of dirt...I did however make sure it was a berm not in use...but I can see the issues... |

I didn't make it this year, I'm saving up my nickels,dimes.quarters,paper etc to get a 7.62 PredatAR, Hopefully with a little luck and with my finances starting to get back on track I'll be ordering one in this coming year..
but if you were gonna sell one of those used PredatAR's....I wouldn't mind picking one up even with a couple thousand rounds on it, hell they are just gettin good and broken in...make mine an 18 inch.... 
do you guys have a lay-a-way plan yet?

Outstanding day. All of the RO's were very friendly considering the vast range of skill levels they had to adjust to. Ya'll put on a heck of a party. Two follow up questions:
If its not a trade secret, what brand of sausage was in the sausage wraps? What was the final time that won the TopShot OBR? When I left it was at 4 point something which was crazy fast. |

Range Day was shot with LaRue rifles machined out of solids, using everything from CNC mills to our wire EDMs ... from aluminum to inconel ... My son (a 17 year old HS senior) and I drove 1300 miles (one way) for Range Day 2011. Our first stop was the long range venue, Our local range only goes out to 200 and he's never shot beyond 100 yards. His first shot at 750 was a hit.. At the end of the day, we went back to that stage. He asked "Do you think I can ask to shoot with Mr. Hodnett?" I told him to just take what lane the RO put him in. When he was up, the RO sent him to Todd Hodnett. As cool as that was, Hodnett started him out at 750 and after a couple rounds leaned over to my kid and said "You're shooting pretty good, let's go out to 1000." I'd have walked 2600 miles for that.

| Still after weeks of attending my first(start of an annual event) LaRue Range day, I am still in awh of the great staff and display of professionalism at the event. Got to test out some toys and boy was I excited.... Not to metion the dillo dust that has been used over and over these past few weeks... AWSOME!! |

| Best event gun event that I have ever attended. I took my son and shot the OBR for the first time. I told him that the rifle was more than I could afford at the moment but that someday I would have one. Two hot towels later I'm a very satisfied customer. Still one of the best experiences I’ve ever had, and definitely the fastest I ever shot. 4.35 seconds, against a Dallas SWAT officer of all folks. Not bad for a cripple, huh? My OBR is beyond accurate still, since I got it in 2011. It’s one of the few items I have in my possession that are specifically listed in my will. Thanks again, Mr LaRue, as well as Mr Fingar. Believe it or not, Range Day and the SHOT show the following January that I attended (because of your kindness), were the main reasons I decided to stay in the Army. I’m almost to retirement (15 months), and got a degree in gunsmithing, with the hope that someday I could either return all the favors to you, or pay them forward. If you ever do decide to have another Range Day, let me know. I will be there with bells on to volunteer for anything you need. Danny |

I watched you walk up to accept your award on your new leg I believe you were still shooting trying to beat your time. The week previous to range day 2011 I was in Costa Rica, for about 12 days. I came back worked that week and flew out to Austin, that weekend was better than my whole trip to Costa Rica. It was non-stop fun and happiness. |
