Larue OBR 556 Range report #1
Below is target I shot after I had re-zeroed my scope. Still need to go up 1 click. I have been shooting on 600 and 800 yard range with a little trouble lately on 600 but much more challenging on 800. To make a long story shot I had installed a Holland bubble level to my scope and to do so I have to remove and then reinstall scope and the top rings. I thought I put the scope back exactly were I had it before. Well I was wrong. I was told that even retorquing the screws can screw up the zero. So I rezeroed at 100 yards and then shot the target below. Group size was measured from edge to edge which was .949.5 which I rounded off to .950" I then subtracted bullet size, .224 to get center to center 5 shot group size of .726" Used 77g SMK with 24.7g of BLC2, IMI brass, CCI 450 primer. Rifle has 16" barrel with 1:8 twist. Wind was very light. I should also mention I shot this with no sanbags or anything to stabilize the rear. I used an Atlas Version 8 bipod at front. http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/attachment.php?attachmentid=88792&d=1299523784 Range report #2 Larue OBR 556: 600 and 800 yards Wind was 7mph to 14mph with some short breaks. Load is the same 77 SMK I referenced in first range report. For a 16" barreled milspec rifle I think it shots very very well. It is fitted with a 2.5-10x 32 Nightforce. Out to 600 yards was not much of a big deal. We have 2' x 2' steel plates at 600 yards and I hit them 2x out of the 3x I fired at them. I used some old targets so they have other pasties on them in addition to mine. The distance between each ring is 2 ½" First photo is at 600 yards, it's a three shot group. Mine shots are covered by the square pasties and have a blue x drawn on them. We figured it’s a 4" to 5" group so it's sub 1MOA. Second photo at 600 yards too is a four shot group. We estimated it to be a 5" to 6" group. Still pretty good. Third photo at 800 yards is 3 shot group. Wind was a problem, plus bullet surely went subsonic between 600 and 800 yards, maybe even before 600 yards. My pasties on this target are the beige ones. We estimated group at 7" to 8", so at least 1MOA. I shot another target at 800 yards. The group size was about the same to a little worse, the location of the groups kept changing. Wind I suppose or just me. I'm not sure a more powerful scope would have helped. The guys with the more powerful scope were turning them down to 20X. So based on my limited experience with rifle I think it's safe to say it can easily be shot to 600 yards even if there is a little wind. I'm thinking if it were not as windy with different wind directions and intensities on the way to the 800 yard target I could have done better. http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/attachment.php?attachmentid=89026&d=1299629169 http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/attachment.php?attachmentid=89027&d=1299629147 http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/attachment.php?attachmentid=89028&d=1299629192 |
