| Anybody worked up any OBR loads? Specifically an 18". I am using Varget in my 5.56 and would like to use it in 7.62 if good results can be had. Any good formulas? |

I am loading 175SMK's, LC brass, CCI BR primers and a few different types of powders-Varget, IMR 4064, IMR 4895 and RE-15. Results have been disappointing so far. 5-shot groups hover at 1 inch at 100 yds. Usually 1-2 fliers ruin the group. Similar results with FGMM ammo. I initially thought it was the trigger so I purchased the adjustable trigger-this did not help. I have started to weigh, neck turn and anneal my brass. My load development has been stymied by the fact that my chronograph stopped reading accurately so it's in for repair right now. I have gone up to 44 grains of Varget from 41.5 I have used up to 42.2 grains of IMR 4895. Up to 42 grains of 4064. Up to 42 grains of RE-15 (I have little experience with this powder). I believe if anything is going to work it will be RE-15. I have a lot of wiggle room to go up on this powder and my first 2 charges looked promising.
More to follow....Hope that helps a little. jay |

Thanks guys. I am definitely wanting something a little heavier in the 173ish grain. That's disappointing about the SMKs and Varget. I was hoping for that combo. I wouldn't let my report stop you from trying Varget. I looked back at my targets again and it appears the groups were starting to tighten up as I progressed with Varget. I think I am going to continue to work with Varget and RE-15. In any event, it appears as though each of these rifles is different. I know one guy who uses imr 4895. Mine won't shoot that at all, so whatever my results are, it is still worth a go in your rifle. Lastly, since my test target from larue was 0.97 inches it may be all my rifle is capable of. That would be a pity, but it's within their accuracy statement. jay |

Going to try more RE-15 and Varget loads next Saturday. I'll share that information if you like. Unfortunately, for now I am without a chronograph so I'll be looking at groups and the appearance of the brass. jay what is your total round count ? Do you think the barrel has 'settled-in' yet ? I can't find it now but I thought I read where several OBR owners guns settled in at x100(?) rounds. |

I'm pretty sure the barrel is broken in. I used the AI break in procedure which is 100 rounds. I have replaced the trigger with an adjustable one. I have weighed brass. Annealed brass. Turned necks. Whispered encouraging words to the brass....The only nut left to examine is the one behind the trigger. I don't have problems like this with my 'bolt guns', but the OBR behaves differently and I may be doing something wrong. What that would be I haven't a clue. Maybe I need to get the thing off the sandbags, but I don't have a good place to shoot prone at this point.
In the meantime, I'll continue to tinker with powders. jay |

I’m running 175 gr Sierra match hollow points, TAC powder, Federal brass, and CCI #34 primers with good results. Waiting on new glass to really dial in the load. |
