Speaking of Dillos, I went to open a bottle of Sam Adams that I got from a bulk pack of 24 purchased at Costco while increasing my home stockpile.  What I noticed when I applied the Dillo was that the inner circumference of the teeth on the Dillo tool was larger than the teeth on the bottle cap.  So large, in fact, that the Dillo was unable to grab/hold the Sam Adams bottle cap.

I have no doubt in the quality of manufacturing of the Dillo tool itself.  It is a fine piece of machined metal.  What I am now concerned about is the question of industry standards.  Is there a standard size for bottle caps?  Are Sam Adams bottle caps normally smaller than the tool is useful for?  In the interest of following ARFCOM procedures, I will attempt to provide pictures and micrometer measurements in the near future!

IMHO if the Teeth fail to grasp the bottle cap, turn it vertical and use the bottle cap opener between the back foot and the tail.  If that fails, find a different beer, never blame the Dillo.

The bottle cap must be non mil-spec and the Dillo is.

Non mil-spec beer bottle caps?  What's next.

This must be caused by the anti's
Those who want to ban all our beer.

In D.C. you have to keep your beer warm until you are ready to drink it.  The beer and the ice have to be kept in separate locations.  This is to prevent accidental drunkenness.

I think we have proof now that Sam Adams is not MP testing their caps and is therefore not a Tier One beer.

I disagree. Out of their entire line, I only like one or two. I much prefer real microbrews. And I mean really microbrews, like what a friend of mine brews at home.

Since Sam Adams bottle caps are incompatable with the Dillo, it would be a poor choice as a bugout beer.

I would like to suggest this thread be renamed from "Dillo Problem" to "Sam Adams Cap Problem - OP trying to twist when he should crack".

For some reason i'm getting all emotional about the slander towards the Dillo.

I use a Dillo on my Sam Adams bottles all the time. You are either making this story up, or you're using the wrong part of the Dillo cause ya don't realize that Sam Adams doesn't have twist off caps.

eta - sorry didn't notice that someone already mentioned the lack of twisties.

Got this email with a pic last night ...

Mark – First off, thanks for putting out some great products. The Dillos are always a prized gift in packages from Austin.

Tonight, we had a BBQ with a bunch of friends.  I brought over a Dillo to donate to the host family and to assist with Beverage Entries.  The sun had set and with the number of beverage entries performed, it became difficult to locate said Dillo for low light entries.  With a bunch of trigger pullers, it was discussed that the Dillo would be better off with tritium inserts and/or IR reflective markers to locate in diminished light conditions.  While the use of tritium was argued, one intrepid user took it upon himself to locate a chemlight, attach it to the Dillo, allowing us to locate the Beverage Entry Tool in diminished lighting and continue consuming adult beverages well past sun set.  The product was then named, the “Low Light Dillo.”

If we had enough NVGs for everyone in the party, the Dillo would have had an IR chemlight.  We stuck with visible blue to allow everyone to enjoy beverage entries and for photographic purposes.

Cheers!

-RJ

Just for the pic. Proper entry on a Sam Adams bottle requires the prying method, however my Dillo still fit just fine.
