| Who is the manufacturer of the parts in this kit? Is it a spikes kit? I see them available for 69$ and was wondering if I should just fo and get one. |

Spikes, Daniel Defense, CMMG are all good parts kits. There are more. Funny - those lpk's look just like the CMMG kits with the colorful packaging. Except that they are ATI, funny. And they come with a trigger gaurd roll pin, unlike the ATI...funny. Read the description of the ATI. |

The CMMG kits are solid mostly, I do prefer Spike's kits though a couple of the CMMG parts are nicer, like the takedown pins. The roll pins aren't as nice in the CMMG kit, but not a dealbreaker. The one area I had a problem with on a CMMG kit, was with the hammer and disconnector.
On a brand new CMMG kit, the coating on these parts is real thick, and after the first few rounds it starts to come off the contact areas of course, but this can leave a rough area that doesn't slide well, causing the hammer to get caught on the disconnector and not reset to the sear, forcing you to manually push the trigger forward to achieve trigger re-set. Nothing a good polish with the trusty dremel won't fix in two minutes, but folks should be aware this might need doing, noobs might freak the first time it happens if it does. |

The CMMG kits come with an allen head grip screw, not the flathead shown in the picture and black detent pins. Also, assuming we are talking about the same kit here , these kits dont come with a trigger guard or trigger guard roll pin.
I've noticed that more reputable brand name kits come with slightly tapered roll pins that are easy to start. Basically you can almost tell the quality of the kit by the style grip screw. Allen head = good and easy. Flat head = you will be fighting the roll pins. |

Flat head = you will be fighting the roll pins. Yep, they aren't even really rollpins as they are basically just an open semi-circle, kind of a "c" shape. That's what I got on the CMMG kit I bought from another retailer. I didn't even bother trying to use them, had some extras laying around. |

The open C is a roll pin. The spiral wound pin is....wait for it..... a spiral pin. Somewhere a long time ago I read an engineering report that roll pins are stronger than similar sized spiral pins, but don't get me to try to prove it...it was 20 years ago when I read it, so take it for what my memory is worth. The hex grip screws are easier to work with, but it is my understanding the flat head screw is more "mil-spec" because a hex wrench isn't in the tool box for M-16s/M-4s? I like hex screws, and my tool box supports them just fine. |

a dead giveaway on the CMMG LPK is the detents are all black.
personally i tried CMMG,DPMS,SPIKES and PSA kits and other than bolt catch and safety selector there cosmetically the same. triggers can vary in feel but i dont use milspec triggers i have the ALG ACT and qms and spikes and ill stick with my JP |

Anyone have issues with missing/extra parts? I have a kit missing the safety selector and have an extra bolt catch. I think mine was fine... I just need to find more parts to complete the lower... Got robbed in october and all I had left is a black lower and a green upper. Luckily I also had a bolt/carrier group, ejection port dust cover, and charging handle. I am trying to cobble together an AR cause I miss it... Also, I ordered one of the mossberg M4 16" barrels. I am hoping to find a magpul aluminum trigger guard and a cheap mil-speck stock/buffer tube/buffer/spring to finish out the lower... Getting robbed sucks....... Richard |
