Hey guys, just got my TNV/PVS-14 and am having a little bit of trouble with mating to my NOROTOS Titanium Rhino Mount. I can't quite get the J-Arm into the mount all the way, in order to do so I have to give a whack with a hammer. And if I accidentally release the J-arm from the mount I'm pretty much screwed unless I have something to whack it with. (Glock seemed to work OK). Any ideas on how I can get this thing to mount up without having to hit it? PS. I remove the PVS-14 from the j-arm before whacking the j-arm into the mount. Thanks!

The standard J-Arm has been known to have some tolerance issues when interfacing with various mounts.  The horn was developed with somewhat loose tolerance in order fit a variety of mounts made by different manufacturers.  Much like the M1913 Picatinny Rail Spec, manufacturers have a hard time following dimensions, so there are various tolerances found in these mounts.  J-Arms are also made by a few different manufactures, so there are tolerance issues there too.  In some cases, these tolerances have been known to be tighter, requiring a larger amount of force to be applied.

Sometimes the parts require a bit of break-in where you would attach and detach the J-Arm in order to "wear it in."  The Polymer on the J-Arm can wear down a bit on the aluminum mount interface.  Try working with the J-Arm a bit more.  But, if you are still having issues, we'd be happy to look at it.  You could send the pieces in to our office and we can diagnose the issue and return you with parts that fit up easier.  Just one of the headaches working with parts of different materials from different manufacturers...

Makes sense. I'll try messing with it over the weekend. Maybe while watching TV or something I'll do as you suggested and attach and detach the arm a bunch of times and see if that helps any. Thanks!

Similar issue, have to tighten the crap out of it to get rid of lateral wobble.  Doing so allows me to,release it, but not connect again, have to loosen the hex, reconnect, tighten.  Suggestions?

Every J arm I have ever used has wobble to some degree. It never really bothered me much as I was not running with them. You can use different J arms to find a perfect fit but some wobble always exists. They are made in bulk for the military (and civvys) and when you have hundreds lying about you can mix and match for that perfect fit. Most of us don't have this option. The dovetail mount is far superior to the bayonet style. I like the Norotos Dual Dovetail but other fine options exist.

The J arm does the job at the lowest cost. It is just not a highly polished piece of gear. The only true way for you to get that solid hook up is to upgrade IMHO. I can play with J arms and mounts all day long for the best fit and it will still wobble.

I assume you are using the Wilcox G-11 mount. I would back the hex screw off just until you can get a solid lock. They are good mounts and with the vertical adjustment along with the wobble reduction worm gear are a great improvement over the old Rhino. All this said I am still a dovetail fan. Another option is to just try another J arm as tolerances vary in my experience.

ETA: If you have ever used the original Rhino with a poor fitting J arm you get a new understanding of what wobble is.

Thanks, I will have to check into the dovetail...
