I am looking at the Palmetto State armory uppers with your 12" rail. What is the weight comparison between:

1. Standard M4 heat shield handguards, delta ring assy.,handguard cap,A2 front sight post/base,standard ar barrel nut.

VS.

2.MI barrel nut,low profile gas block, and 12" rail

I am looking at this for my son, and don't want to add any weight to his rifle. MI's claimed weight for this system sounds very light,

but I have no idea what the "standard" setup weighs?

Any input would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

I am not at the shop so I can't give exact weights but a quick google search came up with a weight of 9.1 oz for the plastic M4 hand guards and the delta ring assembly. I don't have the weight on the front sight base handy.

The 12" Gen-2 SS comes in at 9.3 oz installed.  The gas block and the front sight base are probably a wash so those cancel each other out. The 12" hand guard is going to give him a lot more options as far as what he can accessorize the rifle with as he decides how he wants to shoot it.

The weight difference between the M4 hand guard and out 12" hand guard is going to be minimal. If you get a chance have him get his hands on a a couple uppers with them both installed and have him see what he likes better. The smaller profile of the Gen-2 SS hand guard might fit his hands better too. In the end he will need to pick which hand guard he feels more comfortable with and go with that.

Thank You
