Very tempted to upgrade my Gen 1, because the rails not lining up annoys me!

Off center, the top rail of the hand guard is to the right of the receiver, if you are looking from the receiver to the rails, but the Gen 1 was never really advertised as monolithic.

Plus the Gen 2 are lighter, and look to be thinner.

Sounds to me like to need to move the barrel nut over a bit. That will cause the alignment to be slightly off on those.
Thanks

When can we expect to see these in Midlength (Gen2 Free Float 2 piece drop in)????  I'm ready to buy free float rails for my mid-length, but will hold out for the MI Gen2 if they will be released soon.

Do these use the standard AR barrel nut?  Am I correct that to install, I have to cut the hand guard retainer off, but no need to remove the front sight?

Thanks..

[#10]
you are correct , cut off delta ring and use existing barrel nut.
thanks

No, thank YOU for making exactly what I needed!

BTW, how would I be able to identify the differences between gen1 and gen2?  I want to make sure I get the right one.  Thanks.

I am interested in going with a low pro gas block and one of these rails. If I want to hide the gas block under the rail on a mid length should I go with the 10" or the 12"?? Thanks
10/24/2011 2:54:58 AM EDT
[#16]
Either model will work for that . 10inch will clear perfect over the gas block .  Its really up to you and the look you want

I'm thinking the 9" with the gas block out front like a MK12 MOD1 type of setup. I still want to keep the weight as low as possible. Thanks for the input. I'll send my order soon.

Got my MWI gen2 Midlength for my new 14.5 build ; i wasn't a big fan of the Magpul handguard that came with my upper couldn't be more happier, installed it less than a minute no tools req. and the price is great too.

how solid are these when installed? solid enough for mounting a bipod and not loosening up?
11/18/2011 6:41:07 PM EDT
[#26]
The free floats will never move. The drop ins are also extremely solid and should hold up fine.
thanks

I have a 16" carbine length, AA piston driven M4gery with a Troy battle rail that I want to switch out for the Gen2 extended carbine length rail to get my AFG out further. Ive been reading that one needs to cut off the delta ring to install these rails but in the picture posted on page 1 the delta ring is still installed. I figure I will probably need to remove the handguard cap, but what of the delta ring? Do you have pics of this rail installed?
11/20/2011 2:56:29 PM EDT
[#28]
The gen 2 free float requires removal of the delta ring . It does not rquire removal of the hand guard cap. The unit you see with delta ring is the drop in unit.

Does anybody have a picture of the extended length carbine installed? Seriously thinking about putting one on my PSA build. I assume this is the one with the extended rail in front of the Front sight. Thanks in advance.

extended carbine was a gen1 part that has been discontinued.
sorry

Do these have any type of anti-rotation tabs? I'm on the fence about one of these rails or the rainier arms evo.
1/24/2012 3:02:56 AM EDT
[#36]
yes there are two massive tabs on the bottom that would engage against the receiver.
Thanks

Awesome, I will be ordering a 9" one soon then. Your rail is 2oz lighter and $100 cheaper than the sansom model. Plus, after returning that AK rail for.a refund I feel like I owe you.
