My brother recently purchased a Mk3 CBR. He received it yesterday (Friday) and we took it out this morning to go shoot. It shot fine, the Geissele trigger was fantastic and the Surefire SOCOM brake was great as well. However, after a total of about 50 rounds, a few problems arose.
First, the Surefire brake became loose enough to remove with my hands. The provided shims (in any combination) did not properly index the brake when we tried to reinstall it, which leaves me to believe the brake was just loctited on the threads, which burnt off as the barrel got hot, without properly indexing the brake using the correct shims. That's not too huge of a problem, a few more shims and some Rocksett will solve that. The second problem is more serious. Secondly, he bought a CMMG rail section to attach a Harris bipod adaptor/bipod to. Instructions were followed to the T for mounting. After shooting a few rounds (only 20 or so) in the prone position, he noticed the bipod was loose. When he inspected it, he saw that the keymod rail attachment actually sheared through the keymod rail. He moved it forward a few slots, and after a few more shots the same thing happened. Either the holes were drilled too big or the aluminum was too weak to support that kind of stress (which is ridiculous for a .308 rifle with a SS barrel to not be able to be shot from prone). He has sent an email to CMMG concerning this, but since it is the weekend I assume they won't get back to him until Monday. Has anyone else had problems like this? http://i59.tinypic.com/2vi2wsy.jpg |

This is why I can't get on board with keymod. Seen this way too many times. Usually over tightening or user error, but none the less, it happens way too often. I'm the same way. I currently have a KAC SR15 Mod 1 with the URX 3.1 and won't buy another until the MLOK URX4 comes out. Update: CMMG emailed him back asking for his contact and shipping info. Hopefully it doesn't take 6 weeks to replace a rail and properly attached a muzzle device. |

I rock a Mod 1 and CQB from KAC both with 3.1's. Myself am also waiting for M-LOK full time from KAC. Hopefully the rifle in the OP is turned around quickly. Quoted:

I tried to get him to buy an SR25 but he didn't wanna drop that much dough (student loans to pay off and shit). Who knows, maybe he'll just get a URX put on there. Along with a MAMS hehe |

Update:
My brother spoke to a CMMG CS person over the phone this afternoon. Regarding the muzzle device, he said they would re attach and rockset/index it correctly. (Now that I think about it, I don't recall seeing any evidence of thread locker on either the barrel threads or MD threads). That's easy enough. Must've been accidentally skipped during initial assembly. No problem. As for the rail, he seemed to think it was an older rail, with which they've had problems. Makes sense, as the older guns had the SF brakes, current ones have the CMMG brake. He said they'd put a new one on free of charge. So, CMMG is standing by their products and taking care of my brother, as I believed they would. He said the staff was very helpful and courteous. Hopefully it comes back soon so we can shoot some more

Another update:
CMMG has received the upper and is currently working on it. They've also informed him that they will "refund" his shipping costs by sending him a few extra mags! Awesome CS. They sure are taking care of this issue. I'll update again once he receives his upper back from them. |
