I recently purchased a CMMG 300Blk rifle. I am currently in the process of switching out the hand guard to a MI free float tube. I can't for the life of me figure out why I cant get the micro gas block off! I took out the 2 set screws, removed the gas tube, and soaked it in KROIL. I've been using a small block of wood to try and tap (smack) the gas block free. But no luck. Am I missing something? Is there a trick to this? Any help you guys can provide would be much appreciated.

Carbon build-up is most likely locking it in place.

I go for a rotation first.  If that does not work, apply heat just to block and go for a rotation of the block.  If that does not work, freeze barrel, bust a few CO2 capsules through barrel, apply heat to block and go for a rotation.  Once you brake the carbon hold via a rotation, you can tap for sliding off.

If none of that works, go red hot on block with MAP gas.  Block will come off but the finish on the block will most definitely have to be redone.

Thats the thing. Its a brand new rifle. The only ammo through it was at the factory. So I wouldn't think carbon would be the issue. I tried to turn it with no luck. Guess I'll have to try some heat.......

I have to think all these problems removing components has to do with the "Wasp" coating.
I have had several guys write me about flash hiders being beyond difficult to remove.
I had the same problem. They will come off but I've never had any new rifle that I had to torch several times to get a flash hider off.

I will say the flash hider came right off. I was expecting a fight with it, and it srewed right off with not much force. I thought " this is going to be a piece of cake" and now this. I have a bad feeling by the time I get done I'll be buying a new gas block.

It is not pinned is it? I have seen them pinned in addition to screws.

eta: Not CMMG specifically, but other gas blocks

No other pin that I can see. Just the two set screws and the gas tube roll pin. I took the barrel off and have it setting on end. I put some KROIL on the top seam to see if it will soak down through the night. If that doesn't work I guess I try some heat tomorrow night.

if you are having this much trouble breaking it free (try PB Blaster) you might have to cut it off.

Try some heat, sounds like some lock tight got between the block and the barrel.
