I'm sure this has probably been covered but my searching skills didn't pull up quite what I wanted. Is there a list of ammo that does and does not work right in the CMMG Evolution dedicated uppers?

I just took mine out today and I know they need to be broken in but dammit I was having some major feeding issues. I would say 9 out of 10 rounds wouldn't chamber. They hung up at a tight angle and when the rounds got extracted manually, most had bent bullets.

The bullets in question where Remington Golden Bullet. I finally broken down and bought a box of CCI Stingers and those seemed to feed 100%. I only ran 50 rounds due to the price but it has me guessing the Golden Bullets were the issue.. What works best with these things? I'm looking for some cheap bulk ammo, I don't want to throw CCI Stingers or CCI Maxi HP all day long, that crap costs as much as a box of 9mm lol.

I know my Kimber .22LR 1911 conversion likes Federal Bulk pack but I was out and so was Wal-Mart, hence the Golden Bullet purchase.

On a side note, I have the parkerized CMMG dedicated upper bolt and collar. CMMG was out of all there uppers over Christmas so I got what I could find. Would maybe changing the collar out to the Stainless one help a little?

It is common for a new ar15 to have problems feeding.
After 100 rounds or so they should be GTG.
Steal cases and SS barrels don't mix well(on a side note).

Remington ammo may not function reliably in .22 conversions. It is the only ammo we call out in our instructions as a potential problem.  The federal copper plated hollow points work great and are very inexpensive.

It's not common for the CMMG units to have feeding problems.
There is break in on the park'd kits, but not to that extent.
Use plenty of lube for break in. Also make sure you "Buzz" the chamber. This cleans the gunk out and makes it very smooth.

Remington Goldens are not recommended by most manufacturers including CMMG. The bullet profile is slightly different than Fed Bulk and Winchester bulk 555.
Use coper wash ammo. The Walmart Fed and Winchester run well.
CCI always run well but do cost more.

My kit, after several thousand rounds, will now feed Remingtons but they are so dirty I still don't run them.

Well that makes me feel a little better. If the Golden is the ONLY ammo you guys call out, there must really be a problem then!

I'll just keep this Rem Golden crap for my Ruger MkII, it eats anythying and hit some Wal-Marts for more Federal Bulk pack, I know that is what I have to use in my Kimber .22LR 1911 too and like I said, I normally have it but my Wal-Mart was out so I got the Remington Golden Bullets.

That said, my CMMG upper came with no documentation so I didn't know about the Golden bullet issue. I guess I should grab the PDF off your site and read up!

Where did you order it from?

how do you "Buzz" the chamber ? thanks. I think you replied somewhere but I cannot find the thread.

Buzz the chamber by using a bronze .22 cleaning brush chucked in a drill. Put some WD40 or some type of lube, spin it in and out of the chamber adapter until warm.
I also do this to the chamber end of the barrel. I use a couple pieces of G.I. cleaning rod chucked in the drill with a bronze brush attached.

Midway USA... All it was was a brown box with a CMMG sticker on it with a upper in a plastic baggy. No paperwork from CMMG inside the box.

It's definitely the newest Evolution upper though. It's the parkerized finish one though. I sorta wish I could have gotten the stainless model though. :(

My new upper runs perfect on Federal bulk pack ammo from Wallyworld and CCI subsonic. It did not like Aquila subsonic. I've learned my lesson about Remington rimfire ammo. I have an Advantage Arms .22 conversion kit for my Glock 17 that ONLY runs on Remington Golden Bullet ammo and I keep some on hand for that particular combo, but I don't run it it anything else. It is usually nasty, dirty, and has as exceptional number of duds. Feed your upper Federal or CCI and you should be good to go.

I just had another AR15.com member who ordered the same upper from the same dealer at roughly the same time tell me he had the same issue due to a chamber chamber not being machined smoothly enough, he had a burr that would cause the rounds to hang up.

Something about maybe the reamer was getting dull and the chamber didnt get cut as smoothly as it should have. Anyway CMMG took care of it but before I send off my upper I want to try buzzing the chamber and getting some Federal bulk pack this weekend or something. Just been so damn busy.

kdoggy, buzz the chamber and try it again if you have the time. But CMMG does not expect anyone to work on these to run.
With the amount going out, there will inevitably be a couple get through with an issue.
But again, with the CMMG's there is no tuning, cutting, tweaking to be done. They are designed to run when the end user receives them.
Buzzing the chamber in just about any weapon will smooth it.

shadowcop: where did you get your bronze .22 cleaning brush  ? brownells ? thanks as always.

You should be able to get a bronze cleaning brush at any gun shop, or place that sells gun cleaning supplies.
It's just your standard gold colored cleaning brush in .22 caliber.
