Hello all!  I've been reading and trying to troubleshoot on my own for a while now to no avail...so now I humbly come before the experts.

I bought a used conversion kit off gunbroker with two 15rnd Blackdog mags and one 26 round Blackdog mag.  Initially the kit worked great with the only malfunctions if you want to call it that was the last round in the mag usually wouldn't feed...the 26rnd mag spring is a little weak/dirty I think.

I've fired CCI mini mags with good sucess, Federal bulk (brown box), Federal Match grade (blue box and lead tip) and Remington bulk...and anymore it doesn't matter what I fire.  So let me back up a bit...

I could fire all three mags with maybe a couple malfunctions, which was acceptable to me depending on the ammo I was using and how dirty the gun was.  One day  a friend and I were shooting and it was really cold with snow on the ground, I was using a thinner Hoppes oil and after maybe 100rnds it pushed the conversion kit back past the buffer tube stop in the stock and we had a hell of a time pushing the pins out and getting the gun apart.  After that if fired well then did it again.  Since that day its gotten progressively worse.  I've tried three different AR's, different charging handles, different oils, everything I can think of.  It tends to shoot better if I wedge a quarter between the conversion kit and the buffer tube to jam the kit forward and keep it from moving isolating all movement to the 22 bolt.  I've cleaned the kit thoroughly oiling, blowing out, and using a chamber brush in a drill...its not a feed issue there's something mechanically/timing wrong.

The most recent issue is it one-shots on me without a stuck case or mag in it the bolt won't slam home.  It stops like an 1/8 inch from battery with metal to metal contact and I can't for the life of me figure out what its hitting, but it does this in not only my AR but friends as well (mine is a RR lower with aftermarket two stage match trigger...it may be notched, don't have the gun in front of me but my friend's ARs are stock mil spec lowers).  My AR fires .223 just fine still.  When its doing this the pins are very hard to pry out, the kit will shift, you hinge the upper/lower back together and the bolt will slam home again and you might get anther three shots before it does it again.  I noticed on one occasion that when the kit popped itself back the chamber adapter was offset.  If the bolt is pulled back there's an awful lot of play in the chamber adapter...don't know if its supposed to be like that.

I can certainly send it in or to be honest I might just sell the headache and get a designated 22 chambered AR...depends what you all say.  Thanks in advance!  I'm also from the KC area and could I suppose come down for a visit...

That is really odd. Is it a CMMG kit?
I'm confused as how it can moved back past the buffer detent.
Play at the rear of the carrier is not good but to be able to put a quarter in there is excessive.
The way the kit is made, I am also confused on how it can "tilt"
A notched hammer sometimes will cause drag.
Can you post pics of the kit?

The more I think about it, it sounds like the rails are bent and could be binding the bolt. They have to pe precise.
Since you bought it used, there is no way of knowing if it has been taken apart. CMMG warns against taking it apart but it can be done carefully and properly without bending.
The rails are not easy to bend but some gorilla's out there get carried away.
Do you feel any binding if you have the kit out and manually move the bolt back and forth?
