I just received my Stainless CMMG .22 conversion unit. I like the stainless, slick, finish. I noticed a difference between this and Spikes. No notch in the rear for the buffer detent. Not sure yet if it will be an issue for beating the detent but if it is, it's an easy fix with a dremel. The weld in the back was smooth but noticeable. Again, not sure if it will be an issue with scratching the face of the buffer.
I ran 200 rounds of Fed bulk, which by the way I know the batch I have has issues. I wanted to see what the CMMG unit would do with it. This was shot from a 10.5" Rock River upper and lower with a rounded hammer. I had 2 FTE's that hung in the ejection port early on. This was more than likely due to the erratic ammo. After that, all rounds fired and ejected. Some actually were so under powered they sounded like squibs. It fired 25 rounds as fast as I could pull them off. Most important to me, NO rounds stuck up in the charging handle/bolt. That was a 20-30% problem with the Spikes unit that for whatever reason, could not get straightened out. I'm very happy with the CMMG unit. It actually runs without having to pull the mag out 2-5 times to clear FTE's. When the weather breaks I'll run some more rounds through it and post for accuracy. Great product so far. |
