| Here is a crazy question for you. Spikes Tactical (ST) sells a 22 front adaptor sleave for about $50. It's Nickel plated with O-Rings. Can I switch your adaptor sleave with theirs to come up with an improved modified conversion bolt carrier? |

I have had both CMMG and Spikes adapters. The CMMG's worked perfect, Spikes needed "tuning" big time. Spikes were nice and helped out but in the end I went back to running a CMMG as it was totally trouble free. Now, I do have a Spikes adapter (part that goes in the chamber) on the front of my CMMG bolt but it took some "gun smithing" to make them work together as there are differences.
Just run 100% CMMG and be happy. |
| My Spikes Tactical front adaptor sleave (22LR to 223) arrived today. It has the same dimensions as the CMMG front adaptor, and it easily slipped onto the CMMG rail plate. It appears to be a perfect match. No one has gotten back to me with what they had to do to make this swap work. The original CMMG converter works great. Last Thursday, I ran about 200 rounds of Wallmart Federal through my AR-15 without a single problem. Everything hitting within a 5 inch circle at 100 yards. I'll be testing the new Spikes front adaptor sometime in the next two weeks, when I can get some range time. I'll post my findings then. |
| Got to the range on Tuesday to test the Spikes Insert Adaptor. It mounted to the CMMG 22 converter rail without any problem, replacing CMMG's insert adaptor. I test fired four magazines (25 round in each). Everything worked perfectly. The o-rings are a great feature. It stop the leakage of gases back into the receiver chamber. That means more energy behind the bullet. After removal of the converter, an examination of the Insert adaptor showed how the carbon blackening stopped at the 2nd o-ring. Cleanup was a snap with the nickel plating allowing easy carbon removal. CMMG should consider modifying their design to include better plating and o-rings. |
