Hello, I've been thinking buying a CMMG upper and had a quick question concerning parts options.

If I was going to order a 14.5" upper and selected an MI full-length FF handguard (or any other rail system whose length exceeds that of the gas tube) would the gas block automatically be changed to low-profile, or would I need to manually select a low profile GB from the options?

Thanks in advance!

Select the LP gas block of your choice.  You'll want to anyway.

CMMG has their own low profile one.
TROY, VLTOR, DD, MI, PRI - any of the low profile ones.

If you order it with the 'stock', you'll probably have your order placed on hold until you select one, or CMMG will install their own gas block on there.

Last thing to consider would be the TROY MRF-R/GasBlock/TD Panel kit.  Ot a bad value, and the TROY rails looks amazing, especially if you fill in the T markings on the CMMG upper to match the TROY rails.

Thanks for the info. The reason I ask is I wouldn't want to order a gas block for an extra $30 if CMMG slaps 'em on regardless...

And I did consider combining a CMMG upper w/o handguards and the Troy rail kit, but I'm kinda paranoid about removing the FSB and delta ring on my own. Thought it would be easier to just order it all pre-assembled and CMMG happens to kind enough to do so for me.

If you're getting a pinned 14", then get the gas block you want up front, and leave it at that.  MI and TROY 2-piece rails are both great... but also consider the one peice FF setups, especially if you're getting a heavier profile barrel (LaRue, DD), the DD 12.0 Lite rail isn't all that much more than the MCTAR 12"

I myself went with the MRF-RX on an 18", and MRF-DI on my 14.5", so any of those would be just fine.

The cheapest LP gas block would be just fine, I wouldn't worry about that as much as the other parts.

::ETA:: No problem, wish I had better pictures.

I will take all of that into consideration. I'm still trying to decide on the specifications (bbl length, gas tube, handgaurds, etc.) and just wanted to get all of the info straight before I seal the deal. Thank you very much for the help!
