Ready to purchase...cmon BCM take my money!!!
7/19/2013 6:15:18 PM EDT
[#3]

We have been running this for a few weeks.

Like everything Paul does, it is top shelf

7/19/2013 7:27:26 PM EDT
[#4]
That looks interesting. Looks very slim and light weight, which I like.
7/19/2013 7:43:55 PM EDT
[#5]
Roger Clayton, on both counts...
7/19/2013 8:20:07 PM EDT
[#6]
Thanks Pat. I'll be watching for these.

What's the weight with barrel nut?

Can we see the barrel nut?

Looks awesome. Pretty much have my money now. Nicely done.

Paul will provide that information in his time.

Sorry!

Yeah, Roger!

Color me interested.  I am eager to learn more as details are finalized.  The anti-rotation tabs are a nice touch.

It is nice to see they are getting some hard use T&E in the meantime.
7/21/2013 1:40:44 AM EDT
[#13]
Might have to hold off on the Sampson to see what these are about.
7/21/2013 11:37:43 AM EDT
[#14]
Hmm.... this may replace the rail I am currently using. Can't wait for specs/price/release date!
7/21/2013 3:47:42 PM EDT
[#15]
neat-O!
7/22/2013 2:32:45 PM EDT
[#16]
Looks promising. I've got a lonely BCM complete lower in my safe right now....
7/23/2013 2:52:23 PM EDT
[#17]
LAV posted a pic of his BCM with the new rail:

The rail is a magnesium alloy, and weighs 7.5oz (13" rail"

My rifle with T1 LT mount, Troy BUIS's, Fury light and VTAC mount is 7lbs

It's a true survival rail!! You could always shave of a couple slivers to start a fire!

That's seriously light!
7/24/2013 2:27:22 PM EDT
[#20]
I will be getting 1 or 2 of these once they are released. I hope they make one to fit an 11.5" barrel.

OMG plz make a 10" rail and 11.5" bbl combo

or a kino config

7/24/2013 4:24:36 PM EDT
[#22]
Spill the beans already, BCM!!!!
7/24/2013 9:28:32 PM EDT
[#23]
It is called KM13
7/24/2013 10:00:51 PM EDT
[#24]
I was reading a thread on another site and bcm said it would revolutionize rails like there gunfighter charging handle. Ill bet that thing on the side next to the barrel nut is some sort of quick detach or something like an hk416 rail.
7/25/2013 1:12:30 AM EDT
[#25]
Pat,
Does this rail use a proprietary or standard barrel nut?
7/25/2013 5:46:05 AM EDT
[#26]
Proprietary bbl nut.

The KM13 bbl nut weighs 1.5oz
7/25/2013 10:38:18 AM EDT
[#27]
Need more info!! C'mon BCM, what lengths will be offered? Pricing, any kind of ETA? Hows the rail mount to the barrel nut? I've been waiting for the URX4 but this is drawing my attention! Looking for something longer than 13" my BCM BFH 16" barrel is lonely and NEEDS to be installed

Im sure they will give a proper announcement in due time. Patience my friend. Im in the process of building an 11.5". If they have a 10-10.75" version, I will be a happy camper.

Pat,

How are they finished?

7/27/2013 6:46:21 PM EDT

Well thank you Pat for the intel.

Come on Bravo, kick the tires and light the fires to get these rails out for sale.
7/27/2013 8:34:34 PM EDT
[#33]
I understand the impatience, but Paul doesn't let anything go before it is ready.
I put 10k rds down range on his first mid length gun to ensure reliability.

And is is a proven performer now...

It will come, when it is time...

With it being magnesium, can it light a fire with it?

Kidding, but how's the durability of the magnesium alloy vs the 6061 rails that are pretty much the industry standard?

they should be a little lighter and a little stronger there's a lot of interesting reading out there on Al alloys

Do these rails get hot during high volume fire? Seems that very slim rails with no heat shield such as the troy alpha, daniel defense MFR, etc., get hot pretty quickly if you aren't shooting with gloves. Would like to know how this compares.

I'd suspect it to behave like all other slim free float rails - wear gloves!
8/3/2013 9:50:42 PM EDT

maybe BCM is working on keymod accessories as well?
8/4/2013 12:59:31 PM EDT

The rail is 1.5" wide. With the bbl that close to the rail, it absolutely get hot.

TANSTAAFL.

Wear gloves...

Probably some type of anodizing, or maybe a paint. Did some research on magnesium finishing, and MIL-M 3171 type IV anodizing seems to fit the bill:

Type IV (Dow 9): A galvanic anodize treatment for magnesium. Produces a dark brown to black coating. Designed to give a protective film on alloys which do not react to Dow No. 7 treatment. Only fair corrosion resistance (less than 24 hours 20% salt spray resistance). Makes no dimensional change. Can be used as a paint base, and is suitable to all magnesium alloys. Used where optical properties (black/non-reflective) are required on close tolerance parts (camera parts, laser components, telescopes, etc.) Note: Precleaning and pickling may result in dimensional changes due to basis material loss.

Who knows though, it could be painted with something like ionbond or cerakote. I can't say I know very much about finishing processes on all sorts of metals, either.

Some links for people that know this stuff (engineers, etc):

I do not believe that this type of alloy can be anodized.
It will be told when they start producing it..

Just hearing about this now......I've been living under rock recently. This sounds incredible. 13" rail at 9oz with nut? Crazy! I've been trying to decide on two handguard replacements. This makes the decision even harder.
8/7/2013 8:55:55 PM EDT
[#47]
No, not 9 oz. It is 7.5 ounces...

Pat, is it 7.5 WITH the barrel nut??!

If so, put me down for one.  Ya.  That's light.
8/9/2013 4:40:01 PM EDT
[#50]
That is correct. 5.5 oz for rail, 2.oz for the bbl nut-7.5oz...

I'd love to put you down for 1 but I don't sell anything but training and t shirts.

Sorry!
