If a barrel is found to have off center threads, are there options? Is chopping the threads off and starting over the only thing you can do, or can the end of the barrel be salvaged and re-threaded?
What qualifies the threads as being off center? |

What qualifies the threads as being off center? Cutting off the current threads and rethreading, is the least expensive way, but not the only way. You can also turn the current threaded portion down, rethread, and add an internally threaded adapter that is externally threaded the correct pitch. The Bore NOT being in the center of the threads. The Shop will correct me if my numbers are incorrect, but if the threads are offset from the bore more than a couple of thousandths, then you run the risk of a baffle strike in a Sound Suppressor. |

Reading Barrel threads are barrel threads, I see that White Oak Armament and Compass Lake Engineering are the best for getting the threads right.
How about other manufactures? Namely Noveske with their 18" SPR 5.56mm Barrel. I'm wanting to mount an AAC 51T Blackout for a M4-2000 suppressor. The reason I ask is: Quoted:
Sadly, there are more and more “SPR Contour” barrels available which fall under the production tolerances. I don't want to spend $465 on a barrel only to have to chop .625" off. I know you guys see more barrels from more manufacturers, so you seem like the right guys to ask. |
