I have one 10 round PMAG.  In both my rifle, and carbine, after the last round is ejected, the bolt doesn't lock.  It also won't lock back when I manually pull back on the charging handle.

Is this a common issue or a defective magazine?

I'm going to jump on here and say I'm having the same problem. Tried them in 2 different rifles with the same problem in both - no lock bacl after last round.

Mine is a PSA home build, but my dad's Bushmaster didn't like them either. And I know both rifles do work propelry because they worked just fine with the Bushmaster metal mags and some cheap plastic ones. I read on here that other people were having the same issues too.

I hope Magpul has a fix for it becasue I'm not impressed with them not working. I paid less for no name pinned 30 rounders that worked flawlessly.

I have dozens of 30 round m2 PMags, a few m3, a ton of USGI mags that all work fine in both rifles.  So I know thats not the problem.

I bought it at Cabala's and the talked to a salesman behind the counter.  He told me the problem was common.  Something about the magazine spring being shorter than a standard magazine.  It sounded off, so I thought I'd ask here.

Apparently the problem isn't as common as he lead me to believe.  Oh well, I guess I'll chalk it up as a loss.

A buddy and I have the same problems with our 10rd PMAGs.

Look for plastic flashing on the backside of the follower, and the bolt catch opening in the back of the mag body. It could be getting caught up there, so shave and smooth it out. Hope this helps.

I have 2  10rd Pmags I use for bench shooting/load development.  They work fine. Took about 3 mag fulls for them to lock the action open.
I just took it as breaking in.  They work fine in my 5 rifles now.

I am having the same issue with .308 20rd Gen 3 mags in a DPMS G2 rifle,
The factory DPMS mags lift the bolt catch MUCH higher than the Magpul mags and don't have this problem.

My mags need to go back for replacement....

If it is a "break in period" for the magazines, for the price I paid (bought them as Cabelas), that's just plain unacceptable. The fact that they don't work right from the get go, has turned me off to Magpul products in general. I paid WAY less for 4 knock off cheap plastic mags from MSAR and they are flawless. They should work right out of the box, period.

I have not heard this is an issue till this thread. I will check with our customer service and engineering departments on Monday.

No break in period is necessary with PMags and if there is an issue we will correct it in production.

We will id the issue and switch out any mags having problems ASAP.

I checked mine again last night for any extra flashing, and one off them was actually still jammed up like it still had 2-3 rounds in it even though it was empty for over a week. I disassembled it and checked for flashing on the follower but there wasn't anything out of the ordinary. They are tighter then my other mags, and thery were a little "rougher" feeling, so I "put some wear" on both followers and they are smoother now.

I'll have to see if it makes a difference the next time I go to the range.

Between me and my buddy, we have 7 mags (10rd pmags) total, and they all failed to lock the bolt back (last round and manually).

My buddy used a pencil, ramming the follower in the mag body, and it seems to have worked for him; no problems on last 2 range trips.

I tried the pencil ramming method on my 4, and it worked on 1 of them, but the other 3 was still not locking the bolt back. I took a closer look, and noticed how the follower was catching on the inside rear of the mag body, and not allowing the follower to travel all the way to the top.

So I took it apart, saw the flashing on the rear of the follower and the mag, and shaved it with a pocket knife. Now all 4 of my little pmags are locking the bolt back when operated manually. We're going to the range next weekend, so we'll see it it locks the bolt back on the last round.

You pulled 78 lowers out of your safe and tried your PMAG in all of them?   First of all, nice collection!  Secondly, you are quite devoted.  Have you considered applying to Magpul's QA department?

Just used my 10 rounder today. Zero issues (right out of the package). Lock back every time.
