Won't fit standard magwells.

I'm excited.

They were specially made for the LWRC six8 series lowers which are scaled up a little bit to account for the extra polymer required to make the mags reliable. These mags WILL NOT fit in a standard AR lower.

Hopefully lowers will be available separately.

Unless I'm missing something, longer lower means longer upper, yes?

Great for those who want to maximize the 6.8 cartridge and can afford to outfit an entire country, but not so much for Joe Schmoe who doesn't want to manage 2 different platforms for only incremental benefit.

If I want more performance and general incompatibility I'll get a M&P10 and get a bunch more performance in not too much more weight. YMMV.

Cool, but not for me.

If you want a 6.8 PMAG you will need new receivers. If you don't want new receivers, buy steel 6.8 mags.

The dimensions have been provided to the trade.

My main concern with these is it seems like LWRC just expanded the size to allow PMAGs with the same internal dimensions as steel mags, I wish they'd taken advantage of the opportunity to allow for longer cartridge lengths (since the current COL limits some of the potential loads, such as SSArmory's 140 grain long-range load).

They did, only slightly, to 2.3". They are constrained by the ammunition specs too.

For those of us who have our Six8 currently in transit to the dealer, and from there on to my local FFL, this is awesomesauce.

Yep, it is very cool that LWRC is open sourcing the magwell dimensions.

Agreed.

Does anyone know if there are any plans in the works to design a pmag that will fit a standard magwell, or is it just not possible to get 2.290-2.300 clearance with polymer?

To me the whole appeal of 6.8 was the exceptional energy/range that would still fit a standard magwell.

MagPul has stated that the dimension requirements for a PMag in 6.5 or 6.8 will not fit a standard magwell, which is why LWRC created this new, longer magwell design.

Good to know, guess i'll be forever stuck with metal mags for my DD 6.8.
