So now that we have all the juices flowing with "Art of the Precision Rifle,"  what do you think the chances are of some polymer AICS mags?

I for one would think that would be perfect!

Unlikely, however, I would enjoy not paying $80 per mag for AICS mags

I'd take some, depending on cost, of course...

Mags would be nice.  A whole chasis would be more interesting.  Magpul already has the PRS stock, why not go forward literally with the whole chasis out of their wonder polymer.

all i can say is competition is a good thing.

Someone (Ruger?) used the AI .308 magazines for a new rifle and said that they are working on a polymer magazine. Whether or not that magazine would work for all AICS .308 systems is something a person more familiar with the design would have to take a guess at.

That would be a very cool idea.  A new precision rifle chassis with AICS P-Mags that would integrate MIAD grip and a PRS Stock.  Now we are talking.  Perhaps something along the line of AICS/Masada love child?

I would be all over Magpul AICS mags...

$80 for an AICs mag is a hell of a lot better than the $200+ that Sako wants for TRG mags.  Justin (one of the Massoud designers) has a different chassis for the TRG that takes AICs mags

Maybe Magpul wants to keep their core products and allow engineers to branch out when designing other stuff? That said I would be more interested in a complete magpul chassis than a polymer AICs magazine. My recommendations to them would be to keep it light, and keep it modular.

I was thinking of new Remington bottom 'metal' and a Magpul propriatary mag. In fact, I suggested just such an item a couple years ago. It would be nice to have one that isn't priced like they were solid gold.

I would love to see a Magpul Chassis for the R700, possibly with a side folding design.

This would be awesome. Maybe something along the lines of the MSR?

Somehow I doubt there are enough AICS users out there to warrent the cost of R&D, a mold, marketing, and distribution to make it worth Magpul making mags for the system.

AICS magazines aren't just used by AICS rifle owners. Many of the custom 700 builders are using AICS magazines, and Ruger is using them for their new Gunsight Scout Rifle as well. Plus, those that do use rifles that are compatible with the AICS magazines are paying a lot for the steel magazines. They're good, but no magazine so good that a fellow wants to buy a bunch at ~$80 a pop. If MagPul could come up with a polymer version under $50, they'd sell like hotcakes. They'd sell at $60, but not as briskly.

Ruger claims they're working on a polymer AICS magazine because they anticipate a great deal of demand for them after the launch of the GSR. They're buying their current magazines straight from AICS, but I don't know who they are working with to produce these mythical polymer AICS magazines. Heck, they could be working with Magpul for all we know ...

I understand that other rifles use the AICS mags however globally speaking its a very small percentage of the guns out there.  As a business owner I would look at my resources and direct them at what is selling and that would by AR15 parts.

While on the AICS subject...how about offering a magpul designed skin package for the AICS...its polymer after all...you could incorporate different colors, forend texture etc etc...

I picked up a doz of those new Ruger 25 round 10/22 mags....and they are very nice mags.....

Just the magazines?  Hell how about make a precision rifle stock with top flight features of the AICS, etc.... that doesn't cost $1000 +/- and has the added benefits of lighter weight, modularity, and other whiz bang cool guy features like not requiring a tool box of tools, fairy dust, and a torque wrench to install or adjust correctly.

Like a baby squirrel or pigeon, you don't see an AICS very often with out the skins on it.  There is a thread over on The Hide that shows the rather basic chassis and the panels.

http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2473250&gonew=1#UNREAD

Kind of interesting.  The skins seem to be in Magpul's technology reach.  There doesn't seemt to be anything special about the chassis.

I'm surprised that there aren't more variations on the skins.  I didn't realize how non-structural they were.

Holy Crap that would be the cats meow! I already have an AICS for my 700 from a long time ago. But would build up another for the hell of it.
