Hello,

I am thinking of putting the MOE hand guards on my daughters build.   I haven't got the upper or barrel yet, but I am wondering, do I need an FSB to mount the hand guards or is it free float.  She doesn't like FBS's and would want an MBUS.    Thanks for any info.

The Magpul handguards do not free float. You will need a FSB with handguard cap.

Ok.   Is it possible to have a low pro gas block and the handguard retaining cap in front of the gas block without an actaul FSB?

Yes, but the MBUS cannot be mounted to railed gas blocks due to the excessive heat.

didn't someone once free float MOE handguards? similar to the national match handguards or something llike that?

National Match rifles have a free float tube that standard handguards mount to so that they appear stock and conform to CMP/DCM match rules. Any standard clamshell handguards (including MOE) can be mounted to a NM tube.

However, I don't know if they are made for any length other that rifle length.

Carbine length tube

Scroll down to the bottom of the page for the carbine length.

These are the only carbine length ones I know of, although it seems like a rather pricey solution.

Apropos of nothing, I would frankly be shocked if Magpul wasn't exploring a free-float MOE handguard. Imagine a cross between the current MOE handguards and the ACR foreend - primarily polymer but with aluminum supports and with a picatinny top rail.

It would be lightweight, relatively inexpensive, and dovetail perfectly with the trend towards 'modular' instead of quad-rail foreends.

Bring it, Magpul.

Yeah, I have been suggesting exactly that for 2 years now.  I finally broke down and bought a Samson Evolution free-float system.  I am glad the quad rail system is losing some of the universal appeal.  I have no need of that much rail.
