| Has there been any discussion as to why magpul doesn't make a gen 2 bad lever with the bolt catch built in? seems like it would work fine? |
|
I don't think that would work all that well. The bolt catch/release has to be fairly hard. It is usually made of case hardened steel. If you made it out of aluminum as the BAD lever is, the bolt would eventually peen it over or brake it completely. If you made the whole assembly (bolt catch and BAD) from steel the whole thing would be too heavy to be actuated reliably by the magazine spring. It might work but I suspect it would not work in all positions or not work reliably when the rifle is moving or recoiling. Additionally the BAD lever and bolt catch combo as you are describing would be very susceptible to issues with innertia. That much wight so far away from the pivot point may compound the issue even further. |

I have seen one on the market, an integrated bolt catch and lever, that is. It seemed rather crude looking, but other than that, looked very function. I believe it was being marketed for use with Shrike kits.
ETA: Here it is as found on Gunbroker... http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=214951065
Like I said, it looks a bit crude. |

It also doesn't have the paddle for used it left handed. |

1st: I know this is the Magpul forum
2nd: NO. I am not advertising for someone else's product. That being said, it might be because there is already one out there. Click here.

I'll stick with the original BAD Lever... Phase 5 already makes one and it's $50 so if it breaks your looking at $50 to replace it. If my standard bolt catch breaks I take the BAD Lever off, buy a new bolt catch for $7 and put the BAD back on. If it breaks the company should take care of you. IF IT BREAKS. |

I'm sure Phase 5 is a stand up company but I seriously doubt they have a lifetime warranty on it. |
