what is the proper rail length i should get for mounting on moe handguard???

The MOE L5, 11 slot. It's slightly under 5" long.

Wow, couldnt of been better timing. I just logged on to ask this very question.

Actually I wanted to know for the standard AFG, which i'm assuming is the same?

Yip. That is the longest one they make. The AFG1 is a bit longer than the AFG2, but uses the same rail.
