So yeah idk if this was mentioned because i only see a thread about the UBRs so i figured id make a thread. I was at a gunshow yesterday (which is also today too) in King of Prussia, PA and there was a vendor selling fake PRS stocks. Looked pretty identical and the vendor was selling them for 150 a pop. I knew that was BS so while inspecting it, i noticed a rifle across the other side with a PRS on it, a real one. I matched the 2 up and it was pretty identical except the fake obviously didnt say Magpul PRSG2 or had the logo on it, just said nothing. The fucked up thing is that, people were buying these thinking OMG A MAGPUL PRS FOR 150 BUCKS! and the guy failed to mention it was a knockoff, he just took the cash and went to the next customer. So i asked the guy, wtf it was because it wasnt a Magpul and he says "oh..well its the same thing, its got some beef to it, it does the same thing." He didnt know who made it or where it came from (obviously china) but everything else he sold there were knockoffs of something else too. Only thing is he didnt have a sign that said "Magpul", just said Precision Rifle Stock, and he never told anyone it was made by Magpul or if it was a knockoff. Most people probably didnt ask because they couldnt identify one.
This is just a heads up in case this WASN'T mentioned yet, but im sure it was, i just dont check the industry forums everyday. It just pissed me off when i see people buying these things actually thinking its a Magpul made product. |

Isnt it kinda like knock offs and clones of their OWN products? It creates confusion all through this ARFCOM forum with people asking " is this PTS or REAL stuff ". So was it an impressive knock off? |

Wrong. All Air soft PTS stuff has to be marked as such. They have said repeatedly that its for air soft only. How is that confusing folks? Now, here's the deal. They could have not sold the designs to the chicomers, and only made good Magpul stuff. True. However what would of happen? There would be hundreds of clones out there just like the Aimpoints, Larue, TD, DD, ect ect. By licensing the PTS line, they get to sell the design and make something off of it, instead of having it stolen and copied. I think it was very smart business decision. Point is that NO ONE can stop the chicomers from copying stuff, but at least this way the PTS line is of the same design, just different polymer. Very cleaver... I think anyway. Not many of them will clone something that they already have, thus the PTS line. There will be a few, like the couple stocks, ect., but not near as many as others. So the way I see it, Magpul is beating the chicomers at their OWN game. |

The whole point of the Magpul PTS line is to bring to market licensed Airsoft copies of Magpul gear (that is marked as such) BEFORE the counterfeiters get a chance to flood the market with unmarked copies. |

I agree that guy in question needs to be called out if he is doing crap like that. Besides after you post his name, or company, if just one person reads it and remembers it the next time he is NOT buying a stock at the gun show from that looser, then its full of WIN and worth the trouble.
You have the chance to save people from spending their money on a fake, and the biggest reason that you would also be helping MagPul out. I say this because if someone buys a fake UBR from that guy, and takes it home and installs it. Then goes to the range and it breaks into several pieces... the first thing he will do is take pictures and come on these sites and post them and call MagPuls kit into question. Remember alot of people are not educated on clones, and think because they spent $200 it has to be real. Im sure that kind of stuff is why clones with trademarks are not allowed to be sold on the EE. Sure the seller normally is advertising the item as clone(s), but what happens after the buyer gets ahold of them? Chances are he will see they are pieces of shit and resale them.. Now the kicker is will he advertise the item as a clone, or just list it and sell it for enough to fund a REAL one? No way to know. Just say'n that you have a chance to help out in this by posting the name, ect. If you didn't get it, well oh well, but think about it next time. |

The buyers of these stocks have nobody to blame but themselves. They went in with both eyes open, and many of them may have realized that the stocks were fakes. For them, pricing was the sole factor. These are the same guys that build up AR's using the cheapest parts imaginable, then complain that AR rifles are jambunnys. My UBR came in a Magpul box, with a Magpul manual, and I ordered it from a reputable vendor (Brownells). Seeing "proper" packaging and paperwork alone doesn't mean that the product is genuine (the scum will duplicate it), but ordering from a reputable vendor is. Also, any domestic vendor selling illegally trademarked Magpul fakes with duplicated markings & packaging is open to prosecution; your gunshow dealer is walking a very, very fine line here. |
