First I wanna say that the video is first rate and very informative, especially for one who has never attended a tactical carbine course.
The question that I have, and bear in mind I'm just your average firearm enthusiast with no real-world experience, is regarding the SPORTS drill. I noticed that for some students running this drill it would cause the top round to pop out of the mag and cause a malfunction. Some have cited that this is probably due to crappy mags (feed lips opening up) and not due to the SPORTS drill itself. It just seems to me that if you tap the mag hard enough you run the risk of eventually causing a malfunction from hitting the magazine, unless all your mags are in 100% condition (which they should be if you're in the line of work that puts you at risk of getting shot!). Granted, one shouldn't be trying to smack the mag so hard like a pimp trying to get his girls in line, but ya know what I mean? With that in mind, wouldn't using PUSH/PULL technique be better than tapping the magazine to ensure that it is seated properly? Once again, I don't know sheee-it about immediate/remedial actions drills, but I'm trying to learn though. This was just a simple observation on my part. Thanks. ETA: After thinking about it a bit more, I think the students didn't do the "OBSERVE" part too well, as they were under pressure. If they had, they should have noticed the the loose round in the chamber. So, maybe, my question is moot. Plus, SPORTS is primarily for misfires. |
