I am currently within my retraining window as a first term Airman and just put in a list of jobs to retrain into.  Here is what it looks like, in order I put them in:

1C6X1-SPACE SYSTEMS

6F0X1-FINANCE

1W0X1-WEATHER

5J011-LEGAL

4N0X1-AEROSPACE MEDICAL

Anyone here do any of these jobs?  How do you like it?  How's it like around your work are and whatnot.  I came in as AMMO (2W0X1) and honestly, am just sick of being in a maintenance field.

My #1 pick is Space Systems, i've always loved space and sattelites, love the history of our space program, and would love to fall under Space Command.

Once AFPC approves me to do packages for the jobs, I can start and hopefully get into one and out of AMMO...

I was Security Forces and I got screwed by getting bad info and missed my window.  Then after that they would never let cops out due to low manning.  Once I became an NCO, retraining said I could pretty much only go into CATM or K9, or try my hand at playing Russian Roulette and possibly going into a job that would suck   Otherwise I would have stayed in.  I hated the SF career field that bad.

Of the jobs you picked, I'd go with Space Systems.  That sounds like a good gig.  Legal, might be cool because you can become a paralegal.  Stay away from Aerospace medical.  My wife was a 4R051 X-Ray tech and she said they Med Techs were butt wipers and bed pan cleaners.  Look into Xray, that will set you up on the outside like it did my wife.  Good luck sir.

I'm counting my days - I'm glad to have signed for four years only.

Armalite - I would go weather out of the choices you put up. Go work in the tower and take readings, maybe a briefing or two, call it a day.

Finance? You have a desire to sit around and shuffle endless paperwork all day?

I had a friend who was in Finance and he literally counted the hours till he could crosstrain out of it.

The way the AF has retraining setup, you have to pick 5 jobs.  These are the ones that I figured I'd put.  The AF will come back, and say yay or nay to whether I'm eligible for the jobs, then I have to do my package for the ones I'd like to pursue.

I really want space systems, maybe weather and then legal.  If I do get selected for one, and submit a package, then it has to get approved by AFPC.  Let's hope it does for one of them, bu mainly, space systems.

Of those choices Space and weather are the best. Lots of good opportunities in Weather plus lotsa chicks in that AFSC

Finance is a dead end, The career field is going Virtual Stupidity.

Legal...Sucks ass, imagine babysitting and doing paperwork all day for Lawyers not good enough to be real lawyers in the real world. Only positive is if you wished to pursue a career as a Para-Legal when you get out.
Aero Space med. Are you nuts ! Ever been to a base hospital or clinic ?

Yeah, say no to finance or any other office job.

Aeromed would be pretty harsh, I imagine.

If you want to fly, you want to be a boom operator or loadmaster.  Tons of travel all around the world.

But, whatever you choose, make sure it's something you want to do.

I'm a retired SF Chief and counseled many a troop to retrain.  I retired in 2003, so the process could have changed, but AFMPC used to publish (to the MPFs) a retraining advisory listing the openings (slots) per AFSC.  That way you could ensure your selections were not wasted putting down a field with no slots.  You could also update selections as the retraining window drew down, and based off the list.  2nd tip would be to retrain into a field that has a retention bonus (if they still offer those)
