I'm looking for some help from folks who have done the Palace Chase program to leave AD Air Force and join the AF Reserve. I've done some research, and I know you obviously take a pay cut, and lose the benefits, but you can get health insurance through Tricare. I'm seriously thinking about doing this, active duty has seriously been burning me out and I don't want any part of it anymore. How do you Reservists like it? I have a buddy who did it who said it was the bext thing he ever did, but I'd like some more opinions. Anyone out there have some more helpful info or some info on where to start the process? Thanks! |
I knew some guys who did Palace Chase a few years back. I'd say that its hard to do if you're in a stressed career field like Security Forces or EOD, but it can be done. The guys I knew managed to slide out when Force Shaping was big in 2004. One troop I worked with was turned down because he had some bad EPR's and another who wasn't a bad troop but not one who had a future in the AF. We tried to get him out just to make life easier for him but the AF said no and then the kid got kicked out seven months later. ![]() I'd say keep at it and don't get discouraged. Good luck. |

I did Palace Chase to the ANG back in 1992 . Guard and Reserve are more laid back , though in the last few years AD has been sticking thier fingers in with all the " Total Force " stuff and enforcing more AD BS on the Guard and Reserve. My ANG unit picks up alot of people unhappy with the AF Reserve, most didn't like being treated like second class Airman. Easiest way to start the process is to contact the Guard/Reserve recruiters for the units you are interested in. If you can find a traditional slot with your current AFSC it will go much faster. |
