Ever seen an improperly head-spaced M2 blow up?

I saw the results of it a few days ago as one blew up while another student was firing.  She got frags of brass in the face but because of the eye-pro she was otherwise uninjured.  Part of the feed tray cover blew off and most of it landed about 30 feet in front of the gun, and the receiver is now most certainly out of spec--It's a little bit wider than it used to be.  I wish I had a camera with me.  The range cadre all came out of the ensuing safety meeting walking a little bit funny...

...One more item on my list of things to avoid.

It was a figure of speech.  I know there are warehouses full of M2s, along with the holy grail and probably living dodo birds.

...The receiver of this MG appeared to be very forked.

The military is buying new ones from General Dynamics, which now owns SACO. They are around $14,700 each. I seem to remember them wanting up to 1,500 per month or something like that.

I'm guessing the warehouses of WWII are getting empty.

Not any longer, we roasted the last of them before I retired.

I think they are going to the Spotted Owls now.

I was always a little paranoid about making sure the headspace and timing were done on my gun.  I guess I just don't like things blowing up in my face.

Probaly looked like this, Huh?

I pulled the case from the Barrel, and then ripped them a new A-hole on proper Headspace & Timing.

That's why I carried my own gauge during the last deployment. I NEVER trusted the gunner's mates to headspace and time the mounts on my boat.

When I was a CO, I had my own set and would verify occasionally.
Whats funny is that 2/3rds of the NCOs had no clue what to do if the timing was off.  They had never heard of the timing nut.
Go figure.

The Army has supposedly developed the M2A1 and will be issuing it in the future.  M2 with QD barrel that has set headspace.  Sometimes listed as M2E2 and M2 E50.

How frigging hard is it to set your head space?

Quite a bit like that.  I believe the sides of the receiver were a little bit more stretched out but it could have been the angle i was looking at it.
