As you’ll notice from the link the FCS guys are wearing MultiCam and not ACU pattern stuff. Should DA just have gone with MultiCam instead of Army Universal pattern or do you like MARPAT or CADPAT better?

I'll keep my flight suit.

I think MARPAT is better than the others.  I'm not convinced that the "one pattern for all environments" philosophy will ever work.  I have yet to see any multicam pictures in truly dense jungle type environments, I think it will be too light.  Same goes for all the other one size fits all patterns.

the ACU is dogshit. Ive seen it in the desert and also the grasslands of ethiopia. its terrible. TERRIBLE. someone should lose their job/pension over that.

Agreed, the TWO MarPats patterns are the best choices.  But, if only given a choice of ONE "universal" pattern, Multicam is the ticket.  The only thing I've seen that ACUs blend with is Hesco barriers; otherwise they stand out.

Flight suits suck in the bush.  They are good for the intended usage and work if the fire retardant feature is needed or to cover other clothes.  But, I'd rather wear any other uniform than a flight suit.

Funny I was going to post soemthing about the FCS beucase of the picutre on the fornt page of Stars and Stripes today.

My First Sergeatn and I agree the ACU will last no more than five years. I was intrigued at first, but really don't like it.  Pattern is horrible and velcro does suck; I was weong about that.

I would vote for MultiCam if a single pattern was the requirement.  However, if two patterns were allowed, I would go for MARPAT (with the caveat that black be removed from the woodland MARPAT scheme).

Furthermore, the ACU uniform design is horrific, camo pattern aside.  The only "plus" I give it over the BDU is that it is cut more comfortably.

Mulitcam is nice, but it won't do shit in the desert. I agree that cut and pocket placement of the ACU is a step in the right direction, but the colors suck and the velcro is the single dumbest thing I've ever had on a uniform. The USMC got it right with two patterns for the two major climate zones of the world. If you need to go artic, that's what the specific cold weather issue is for.

I don't like ACU, I think the Army just didn't want to be left out when the Corps got "digital camo."

I voted "other". Multicam is vastly better than ACU... ACU is such a bad color choice it's pathetic.

With that said, I think the *best* choice would be a general issue pattern, in mostly arid environment colors, and a tropical/woodland terrain specific pattern (similar to Cadpat TW colors without the black).

Plenty of ACU bashing goodness over in the "tactical gear" forum also

Yeah i voted for multi cam, ACU is crap, but on the upside, that guy has a xbox 360 contoler in one of the pics for that little tracked recon vehical, nothing beats a $25 controler that is joe proof lol

I was trying to come up with a joke to go with that photo... there's a lot of potential there

I was just being a smartass, I'm a flight engineer, thats all we wear.  My unit hasn't even heard about getting ACUs issued yet.  A couple of the maintenance guys bought their own though.

That seems to be the general opinion of soldiers, however senior leadership thinks it's the greatest thing since sliced bread.

If they had asked us soldiers first, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Kinda like when they asked us if we wanted the black beret?..........oh wait, they didn't.

Rgr Matt.  My comments, although inspired by your post, weren't directed at you, but more at those out there who really think flight suits are great field wear.  They do absolutely serve a purpose in some settings, but are not the end all be all.

ETA:  I can't imagine spending hours at a time in the seat (any seat) of an aircraft in regular trousers riding down, bunching up, t-shirt coming untucked, etc...so I understand why flight suits are a perfect fit for aviators among others.

Agreed...along with a swift kick to the pills.

I pretty much refuse to wear them. The ACU design, aside from the pattern and velco, doesn't bother me. But it's going to take a few negative counselings and maybe even a negative bullet on my NCOER before i'll wear them with any sort of regularity.

I like the CADPAT or Multi. Or hell, even old-school tiger stripe. They're all better in looks and functionality than the ACU.

Personally I don't know how anyone can think that one pattern can work everywhere...but...Multicam comes about as close as anything that I've seen. I think there should be at least two patterns with snow "overwhites" when needed. If there needs to be only one pattern then I vote for Multicam. I heard that Multicam was way more expensive than the ACU pattern and that this is why they went with ACU digital.

Multicam is pretty impressive though.

I notice that they don't show anyone on a couch though.
