was thinking about joining the guard MP's had a few questions. What promotion opportunities are there and how far can you go? career? when on deployment would they be fully armed body armor, m-16, 3 day survival pack? what do they really do? any help would be appreciated

As an MP you can go all the way to Command Sargeant Major. If you're joining the guard or reserves promotion can be a little slower because prople tend to stay in the same unit for long periods of time.

When you deploy, (note I said WHEN not if), you will get all the stuff you need.

what do they really do?

As an MP you will be doing everything from standing in the same place for days on end guarding something completly unimportant, to kicking in doors and looking for bad guys. Unless you are active duty or in a law and order detachment you will probably not be doing much real police work. All you have to do is watch the news to see what the troops are doing in Iraq.

You probably are going to be doing a lot of convoy security and presense patrols.

If I were u I would just go infantry, in the guard and reserves I personally believe that you should try to go with the guys that know their shit and are in good shape.
