I was a dumbass and actually told the truth on all my MEPS paperwork. I have a spotless criminal history, not even a traffic ticket *knock on wood*, no financial problems of any kind (never a late payment), a completely clean bill of health (no surgeries or serious illness of any kind), but I did smoke weed 3 times before I enlisted. Yes, I actually put that in my paperwork where it asks. My question is, will I still be able to get any security clearances i'll need? The reason I ask is i'm in the process of getting a clearance and the investigator in charge of my clearance called me out of the blue today and wants to sit down with me to talk about the usage and get a statement. Should I be worried? I told the truth at MEPS and I plan on saying the exact same thing to him, which is the truth. Will I be denied because of this? Also, towards the end of the year I plan on contracting into the ROTC program at the college I attend. Will the usage be a problem with me contracting or commissioning? |
Not true. What is important is how long before your enlistment you did inhale. Too close to enlistment can exclude you from some advance programs. What is important is the dates you said you tried it. |
| Last time I indicated I smoked was about 1.5 - 2 months before I enlisted. Wasn't the smartest thing, but at that time I was in my freshman year of college and not really looking at the military. I'm not too concerned about getting higer level clearances right now while i'm enlisted, but I am concerned about how my career may be effected if I do need higher clearances when i'm commissioned in 2.5 years. From what I understand, when I contract with ROTC it voids most of my enlistment so to speak. I'm still obligated to drill with my unit and all (Simultaneous Membership Program), but i'll have a dork dot instead until I commission. As long as I continue to keep my nose clean and make sure I continue to be honest with them, should I be OK for higher clearances when I commission? I'm planning on putting Armor and Infantry as the top two on my wishlist. I have experience with both now. I'm in a cav. scout platoon and about to get my humvee license and my MOS currently is 11B (infantry). |
