Took the Korean DLPT this morning after learning it for about 5months. Managed to get a 1.6-Listening, 1.6-Reading and 1-Speaking. The minimum standard to graduate was a 1/1/1. For those who have taken the DLPT's...they're hard. I had no idea how I did and half the time I had no idea what the passage was about. Its fun trying to pick out a couple words and then answer the question.

Thanks. Nope I'm of European descent. I did the SOLT(Special Operations Language Training) program here on Ft. Bragg. It was the DLPT 4. The Russian guys took the DLPT 5 on the computers. A good chunk of them didn't pass at least once section from what I saw but alot of that is teacher dependant and depends on study material used. Our teacher supplemented the SOLT books with lots of vocab that came from DLI. We weren't impressed with the SOLT books but they're forced to use them under contract. DOD is authorized to pay for a 1/1 but the funding hasn't been approved. Just read a thing saying hopefully at the start of FY07 they will start paying. The languages are broken down into Immediate Investment, Strategic Stronghold and All others. $100/$50/$25 for a 1/1. I would get $100 for Korean hopefully. |
I really didn't need to read that - I am off to DLI for Russian in a few months. Did you ever take the DLAB? THAT'S a freaky test. |
Haha yea I took the DLAB before I joined. I scored an 85. Part of the reason was I decided change the "pattern" I was using 1/2 way through. I found out Friday that I was 2 & 3 points away from a 2/2 :( If I had gotten the 2/2 I still don't think my abilities would've fairly matched that score. The extra money would've been nice though. I wouldn't worry about DLI because you are going there for a yr at least right? All of us had maybe 5months at most of language training. |
Haha yea that would be me. Thanks. I would have to agree that language school was pretty crappy having to do the same routine over and over for 5 months or so. It sucked even more because of the required 1/1 std then the cadre telling us if you fail the 150hr retrain they're going to send you needs of the Army. Personally I tried to not stress out too much over it and just took it kind of easy and somehow I managed to pass with a decent score |

When I went to DLI, training to fulfill the needs of the army were completed across the bay, at what was once Fort Ord. The needs of the army at that time were in Nam. Do they still have the 14-week short course in the language of current combat zone for grunts? F |
