A while back I was discharged from the IL ARNG because of medical reasons. Was involved in a bad vehicle accident and got a broken back, and a bunch of metal in me. Instead of a DD214, I have a NGB Form 22, "report of separation and record of service". Most of it is correct. However, my unit left for Iraq while I was in the hospital, so you can imagine that nothing was able to be done about paperwork. They just came back this past friday. I am missing 2 awards on the form, the NCO Professional Development ribbon, and an ARCOM. I'm under the belief that you are awarded the NCO PDR after the completion of PLDC, correct? Is there anything that can be done to put the correct awards on the form? It probably won't matter one bit if they are on there or not, but it does matter to me. |

NGB Form 22s do the job for ARNG Soldiers separating in an IDT Status If you need to have it amended it should be no problem. If you attended PLDC you should have a DA 1059 (Academic Report) showing your completion, that will serve as a source document to have your 22 Amended for the NCOPD ribbon. As for the ARCOM you should have either a Certificate or a copy of a DA Form 638 both can be source documents. If you do not have either you can visit the Higher HQ for your unit, go to the S-1 and have them contact your MACOM, ARCOMS require the signature of the first 0-5 in your chain, that is usually Bn or higher. Records of Award Boards are usually on site a minimum of 3 years. DD-214s, and NGB Form 22s used to be generated from your 201 file and were notoriously inaccurate, in addition during wartime soldiers often separate before some higher Awards are approved at DA level. Your case is not the least bit unusual, but it will be up to you to correct it. After 26 years of service I finally got an accurate DD-214 when I retired, and only because I was able to produce the source documents. The old saw "never throw away anything the Army gives you" is still good. By the way, thank you for your service |
