I'm going down to MEPS on Monday at 0330!!! I'm soooooo fired up. My best friend is shipping out to Ft. Benning, GA on the day that I DEP in, that's cool. I've been waiting for just about my ENTIRE life to enlist and now I'm old enough!!! Muahahahaha, I know MEPS is boring and I wont be so happy when I get there, but I'm happy now and I'm just gonna run with it until the truth sets in!!

ETA: I'm enlisting in the USMC with the MOS 0300 (Infantry).

You will be bored out of your skull for most of the time.

Hurry up and wait!   It's the military way!

Is this your first trip to MEPS, or the second one and your shipping out to basic?

Good luck!

This is my first trip, I'm getting my physical and taking the oath. Then I'll be a DEPer for a year until I graduate high school, then I'll ship out to MCRD San Diego for 90 days of fun in the sun!!

CMJohnson is 100% correct.  MEPS will bore you out of your mind.  Bring a book or something.

Awesome........thank you for your service!

When I went through, they had so many old, retired doctors.......do they still have them?

That, and A1C's who think they're the shit, cause they can type!  Haha......but this was over 15 years ago!  Man, I'm old........

Whatever you do, don't believe the stories about the job you want being "full". Hang tough and don't let them sign you into a blank specialization.  They will tell you ANYTHING.   Remember, they want you bad, make them give you what you want.

I had to practically head for the door before the jobs I wanted magically became open.  Stick to it, just like buying a car be prepared to walk, they will give you what you want if you hang in there.  If you are so weak you take what they offer, you desreve what you get.

Good luck!!!!

From what my friend told me when he went last year, ALL, and I mean ALL of the docs were OLD black guys that looked like they were gonna drop dead in two minutes. (not being racist, just saying what I heard). And when I say old, I mean like they were old when WWII was going on.

Hahaha, if they tell me that Infantry is full, I'll laugh at them. (Well, no I won't... but I would feel like it anyway ). I don't think Infantry has EVER actually been full in the entire history of these United States!! Hahaha.

Ugh, MEPS

0300, eh?  I'm going through 0311 training right now (Rifleman), and I got plenty of buds in all the other infantry mos', so if you have any questions about the training, just send me an im.

If you die and St. Peter decides that you need to spend some time in Purgatory, but finds out that
Purgatory is full,  they'll send you to MEPS for a while instead.  Same thing as Purgatory,  except
the food isn't quite as good.

Well, I done good!! I enlisted yesterday. It was DAMN boring and all the docs looked well over 150 years old. . It was a pretty cool experience though, I just never want to do it again.

ETA congratulations though, I felt great once I got through MEPS

Heh, I had to go through MEPS twice.  Once when I signed up for the Army Reserves, and a year later when I was sitting on my butt at home doing nothing and decided to go active duty.

At least the 2nd time I was prior service so they rushed me through.  My "physical" took 3 seconds.

Friend and co-worker [USMC] told me about the time he was stuck at MEPS for four days - hurricane.

Somehow, no matter what I say, he's been through worse.  I guess that's a good thing for a lowly DEPper to see.
