Well, I'm fresh outta boot and Pacific Marine Credit Union sucks, so I'm thinking about banking with USAA, and was wondering what opinions you guys have on them.  I've heard good things so far, but would just like to hear more.  I'd like to hear about their mutual funds too, because I don't know a damned thing about that kinda stuff.  Any advice is appreciated.

I bank and get my insurence through USAA and they are awesome!  Can use any ATM in the nation and if that bank charges me a fee, USAA pays for it.

They pay interest out twice a year

They give 0.5% cash back on debit purchuses.

etc, etc

Highly recommend them for both banking and insurence

Where are you getting stationed?  Some banks are only at a few bases while others are world wide.

Navy Fed is normally one of the better to deal with (USAA isn't bad either, but won't be local for you), Marine Fed can be screwed up sometimes and is only in Lejuene and Quantico.  West Coast has a version of Marine Fed, but it like Marine Fed is one coast only.  If I remember right Navy fed has some odd restrictions on enlisted joining.  Something like you have to be "deployed to join" but officers can join at anytime.

Navy Fed is great but i think you HAVE to do it in bootcamp or go overseas.

i like the Ft. Sill National Bank that was given to us in bootcamp when i went.

Not true unless this is new, I got an account there while in Rhode Island.

USAA is good, I have a platinum master card with them at 3.9%, can't beat that. I also plan on gettin some mutual funds with them, I know quite a few guys that deal with them and have had great luck.
And yes, MCU sucks balls.

+1 for USAA.

I've been banking with them for years and I can't imagine any company out there that will treat you any better.

+1 for USAA

I have my auto and home insurance through them.

You even get a little bit of a payout when their year is good. I forget how they calculate it, but  when claims are low they just don't keep the profits, they spread them around to members. I've gotten back anywhere from $125 in a claim ridden year to $500 in a relatively hurricane/natural disaster free year.

Not anymore. Hell, they are letting civilian contractors join. IMO Navy Fed sucks. I had them since 1994 to last year. I'll be using USAA from now on. I can even use Navy Fed ATMs whenever I want with USAA.

USAA owns our house, so I have to say nice things about them...for the next 27 years anyway.

I've been using USAA for insurance since 1995 (somewhere around there).  I doubt I'll go anywhere else.  Matter of fact, my auto insurance just went down about $300 a year due to Texas laws changing.

I have my vehicle financed there, at just under 4%.

I had chosen them to due some investing with, but the divorce of 2000 struck; I should pick that back up shortly.  They have a fine history.

I don't bank with them now, but may change shortly.

Another perspective:

I'm an electrician, and of the last 6.5 years that I've been with my  current employer, I've worked over 4 years at USAA on the various construction projects: G bldg, H bldg, E/F Fitness Ctr Remodel, A-D Remodel, E-F Remodel, and a bunch of little projects.  I've seen a lot of trhat place.

I play baseball with two USAA employees, and they love working there.

Bottom line:  USAA takes care of its employees; very good care.  The facilities are excellent.  This is a big selling for me, along with their commercial reputation.

USAA is preparing for its spring celebration for its employees, called Spring Fest.  It's gonna be big.  Last week and next week, myself and two other guys are on the USAA Maintenance/Electrical Shop payroll, and we're setting all the transformers, temporary power, etc that will be required for all the booths, rides, etc.

The area where we're working is beautiful.  It's kind of like a recreation area - basketball courts, pavilions, baseball diamond, golf driving tent, small river with a bridge, very well cared-for lawn, etc. etc....man, I'm tellin you, if you work for USAA, you've got it made.  As long as you're not out-sourced, that is.

And not to mention all the deer running around there.  You can easily get within 20 yards of them.

It's an unbelievable place.

EDIT:  and a special "Thanks" to the USAA Electric Shop guys for taking care of us these two weeks.
