It's not a medal, it's what's called a challenge coin, or just simply a coin. Units design them and have them made by 3rd party companies. Usually they are given by commanders/superiors to recognize an individual accomplishment.
The one you have appears to be in remembrance of 4 soldiers who lost their lives during OIF. |

And the names around the coin are probably the members of their unit that were killed in action. Its made in the shape of a diamond because 4/32 belongs to the 4th Infantry Division now based out of Ft. Carson, CO. The 4ID patch is a diamond with four ivy leaves poitned in the cardinal directions (its on the coin too). Seems they might of been in the area or even as part of the bigger mission to capture Saddam Hussein in Ad Dawr, Iraq.
Would like to know why the BIL had it in the first place? Then why give it away? |

Would like to know why the BIL had it in the first place? Then why give it away? He said he had found it on the ground but do not know where. Probably somewhere around where he works of lives. My wife and him were talking about all her grandpaw's medals and he brought it up and had it in his car. |
| I was right about this being LTC West's battalion, I hadn't noticed the 1st brigade symbol. If you are really interested in getting it back to him and hit a dead end I can contact my old battalion commander and Im sure he could probably pull up a first name to go with the last name. |

I wouldn't know where to begin locating the original owner. Any help from you guys would be greatly appreciated. I have no problem giving it back. I wouldn't feel right keeping it from PV2 Canas. |
