I'm being put in for this by my NG unit and was wondering if anyone's gone to these and what I can expect from the course (beyond what ATRRS says) and what the schoolhouses are like?

It seems to be taught at Fort Bliss and Camp Robinson, AR.

I went to the one at Camp Robinson.

2 weeks of in depth training on the M9, M16/M4, M203, M249, M240B, MK19, and M2.  You will assemble, dissamble, trouble shoot, learn how they operate, shoot, and learn how to run a range.

Pay attention and study.  The course is very laid back, if you go to Camp Robinson make sure that you have a POV.

I went to Robinson when the courses were called SAIROC and Master Marksman. The schoolhouse and range facilities were good back then, but thatw as teh late 90s to '03.

They are good courses and well worth the time.

I understand that both have been merged together, so hopefully they are still a good product.

If you are going to Robinson, TAKE A POV. Robinson is one post you do NOT want to be on without wheels to get off of in your spare time.

edit:
OP:

If and when you go, they'll probably give you a  CD of the instructional material. At least they did when I went. If they do that for you, I'd be happy if you could get me a copy.

Thanks in advance.

If i go i will definitely get up with you about that, and yeah i've read that POV is necessary there due to no DFAC at Robinson and having to eat on local economy...

Get your unit to put you in for it.

It used to be centrally funded by NGB back in the day. Now it comes out of the state training budget.

I wasn't too happy to hear that they had merged SAIROC and Master Marksman. SAIROC was great for teaching guys HOW to run a range well, something the Guard always cuts corners on. Master Marksman was  about coaching and the elements of shooting better. I think its too much to put into a single 2 week course.....

Every unit should send a guy to this course to be a SME on running ranges well.

I went to Camp Robinson for it in 2008 I think.  If you are a member of ARFcom you probably dont have a problem with it, but I always had problems remembering the cycles of functioning for each weapon.  Guess I am more of a visual guy and not just a theoretical one.  Before we could be tested off on each weapon system we had to be able to answer the normal characteristics/specifics of that weapon.

I would love to do a refresher of the course if it was offered.

They gave us a CD or all their course presentations.  Our class tshirts were small so order bigger than normal.  YMMV.

Disappointed to hear they merged the Master Marksman course.  I am still trying to get back for the Squad Designated Marksman class.

FT

Could you burn me a copy of your CD?
Always interested in seeing how the material has changed since I attended.

I'm pretty sure i'll be good, i'm the company SME for M249, M240B, M9 and MK19 as it is.  I just need to refresh myself on the .50 and i'll be good.

Sorry, away from arfcom for a few days.  Well, still BOTD sections.  Yes I can burn you some stuff and send it.  Give me an address.
