Me and the wife got into the Army and the way things are(). We ended up getting to the proposal to allow women to serve along side men in combat arms. Long story short, something she said made me realize that it would be a good idea that as part of my initial counseling I should include a recommendation to get on some form of birth control. With all the advances in BC; Mirena, depo, The Pill, The Patch, Neuva ring, what ever; it would be easy to keep up on it without disrupting missions and operations. I know I cant make it an order but I think if I made a strong enough case for it and provided all the options in the appropiate manner.....I dont know. I think Im ready for dealing with gays coming out in the military, but women.....man, thats gonna be a rough one.

I take it you're in a leadership position?  I'd steer well clear of that plan unless you don't desire to have a career that goes much beyond what you've already done.  I can't imagine that would play out too well.

It's not that ridiculous. I've had similar thoughts myself only mine were about civilian careers. My thoughts were that as an avowed non-breeder, I should be able to present a note showing I'd had my tubes tied or something similar and give them the option of considering that when hiring. This was even before I had to work with mothers and pic up their slack.

I hate hormonal birth control, and I don't think it would ever be ok to make it mandatory for any occupation, but I'd really like to use my choice of childlessness to my advantage.

This would make too much sense.  I've seen some women in the military that the only discernible job I saw they had was producing children.
