I know I can get an answer here.  US Flag got loose from its fasteners during a storm.  It was found on the ground and immediately brought in to dry.  I read the US code and know that it SHOULD never hit the ground, but not what to do if it does.  We were told by one person it should be destroyed properly.

I know I can clean it, but does it need to be destroyed?
Thanks in advance and thank you for your service.

Wash it and hang it more securely.

I was hoping that was the answer.  One of the clips that hold the flag broke.  Off to the hardware store I go.

This.  By "never hit the ground", they meant intentionally or by dumb negligence.  Getting caught in a micro-hurricane is another thing.
