Yes, I'm putting up a poll.  All these threads about officers running Obama through NCIC etc. got me thinking..  all high profile people aside, I KNOW the majority would be smart enough for that..  But...

Have you ever used the NCIC system to maybe check for warrants on a potential girlfriend/boyfriend.. and childs prospective boyfriend choice, neighbors etc. ?  I'm not talking about runnning a complete criminal history (requiring a case #).. just checking for wants or warrants?

CHI requiring a case number?? Who does that? I have never seen even a data entry point for case number.

You get some decent discipline for misusing the system around here......

You mean just NCIC+State/Local  right ?

You would have to be pretty dumb to just sit there and bang away at the MDT,

Would this include a grey area type of thing say you do a rolling check for improper lane usage and you just so happened to have sisters boyfriend in front of you at the time

Our system requires a case number and reason for all III inquires (Complete criminal history)  Reason usually is a standard investigation response

DL Checks, wanted checks etc, they don't..

So, you are on a person stop. Where do you get a case number?

Do you guys not use a J-link set-up?

It's the same way here. We can file check all day long, LEIN/NCIC/PPO/CCW. But to get a Complete Criminal History we have to have a case/report # and charge.

J-Link??? Don't know what that is.. and I'm not a road officer...

But the system we use here, basically any contacts are ran through IDACS/NCIC for warrants, registration info, & driving eligibility, points etc.

The criminal history is a totally seperate thing.

I have access to local criminal history right on my MDC, same level of query as drivers license, vehicle reg... it also checks LEADS/NCIC for out of area wants.
I can get full criminal history from the terminal at my station, using my login and my password... I use it pretty frequently dealing with dopeboys.

Would I use it to run my new shady neighbor/sisters boyfriend/other non-work related?  Nope.  Its a felony in Ohio to misuse the system.... not worth loosing career / freedom / bunghole-virginity for.

You usually don't need a case number for a "querry wanted person".

If you "querry detailed criminal history (aka triple I "III")" then you usually need to log it and put in a reference. Usually you need the FBI number to run this check.

Of course then there are state systems that can and do vary by jurisdiction. Not everyone puts their warrants (or all of them) into NCIC.

Where I work I have total access but no reason to run anyone. It would be so out of the norm for me to run someone or ask that they be run that comments would be made.

I run complete criminal histories regularly, especially on dope cases. No requirement for a case number or for a specific charge, because I may not charge.

Criminal history is an excellent tool to build criminal indicators.

And no, I don't 'run' folks like as mentioned in the poll. I've checked people's driver's license status before, at their request, but that's quite a bit different.

I am fairly shocked at the results I figured thought about it would be the hands down winner.
You know it's really more a reflection on the departments IT infrastructure  and how the data is accessed. Another funny thing I didn't even think hey people do this from a desk at a computer where the non patrol guys are thinking oh yeah you can do that in a car

I think it would be more tempting and easier to get away with on the investigations side of the house just a bad idea.
From what I could tell is whatever the FBI's internal audit software is what got that moron caught that tried pulling a IIII on Obama
