I've been thinking of applying to the local PD in my town. I'm 29, have never been convicted of any felonies, domestic violence, or serious misdemeanors. What I'm worried about on the Personal History Statement is the part about drug use...
I don't touch any drugs at all but I can't say the same about when I was younger. Also, when I was a professional snowboarder I went to a few parties where I partook in some illegal drugs. I have used/tried a lot of the drugs that are listed on the statement. I'm not going to lie about it as I know that the truth will come out during the lie detector test. I know that every PD has different standards as far as previous drug use goes, but should I even bother applying? |

Time for most Departments is the key to overcoming your drug history. If you quit smoking pot last week, you probably are going to be passed over. If it has been 5 years, then your chances are pretty good. It all depends on the Department. I am sure there are some Departments that disqualify for any drug use. |

I would say to call the personnel office and ask them about the drug usage. That way you aren't waisting yours and their time. |

Good input so far. A lot of places are OK with "youthful experimentation", but don't want it to be a recent thing.
Just don't do like my buddy and reply to the question with "I've done pretty much everything short of shooting smack" in front of the review board. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
