Ok, after the thread talking about helmet letters it got me thinking it would be cool to do a helmet photo thread.  Post your helmet pics if you have some!

Mine is a 1010 that has worked well.  I have a leather one on the way.

which do you like better?

i am currently using a BEN 2 with Bourkes, but am wanting/needing a new helmet. One reason is the Bourkes aren't NFPA without goggles so everyone in the department is using shields. The department is issuing Paul Conway American Heritage (non leather), but have considered going with the Cairn's, primarily because I like to keep my helmets as momentos.

To keep it short I like the Cairns for comfort and features, the Conway for quality and low ride style.

one of the MAJOR reasons I do not like my BEN2...I see you have the drop down sheild on your 1010...i have a buddy who runs that helmet and I have tried it on a couple of times and just do not think i would like those.

what features (other than the drop down shield) do you like on the 1010 that the conway does not offer?

I did not like the drop shield at first. After using this helmet about a year I have grown to like them. No more keeping up with safety glasses or cleaning goggles when your done using them they fold up into the helmet. The suspension system in the 1010 is much more comfortable. Some parts of the helmet feel a little cheap compared to the conway.

If you are going to fight a lot of fire and really abuse a helmet I would get a conway.

If you are going to spend more time on wrecks or rescue scenes I would get a 1010.

Now that's a first!  A gun to helmet comparison review...

Sorry for the cell phone pics...

This is my Phenix that I use while on shift, a little roasted, but holds up well and feels comfortable.

This is my Paul Conway (leather) that I keep in my truck for responding when not at the station.  This is the one that survived the flashover as I was bailing out of the room.  A couple of the glo-flex got charred and the rest cleaned up and work fine.

I bought an Cairns N6A last week or the week before and had read about the paint not being great on them.  After seeing the pics of your well used helmets, I believe it.  Mine hasn't seen much use and it is getting all nicked up.

Both of them are about 5 years old and they are barely cracking.  I've had some leather get nicked from crap hitting my head and I just hit it with a paint pen right away.

The Conway is pigmented leather, right?  What about the Phenix?  Is it painted?  I have heard a lot of good things about them...

Do you guys where safety glasses or rely on your bourkes for primary eye protection.

The Phenix is painted, a some scratched areas show the natural leather, the PC is dyed.  I carry a pair of safety glasses above the suspension in the helmet, you never feel it up there.

Mainly I use safety glasses, but I have used the ESS goggles a couple of times since I have had them and like them.  I had the Cairns googles for a while and they pretty much sucked.  I have used the Bourkes when I didn't have anything else with me and things needed to be done, but I would prefer not to.

Good idea on the safety glasses up top, I will have to give that a try...

Nice thing is that there is enough space to fit a pair of safety glasses and a polar fleece hat for when winter is around.  Hoods only do so much in -20*
