In the academy, were you taught to draw a weapon from concealment in plain clothes/off duty garb and engage a target?

actual training no, we did go over some off duty carry stuff (holsters, guns, extra ammo etc) but we did not actually draw and fire from concealed carry.

We didn't deal with that in basic; thats been the topic of in-service training since then, however.

No, that's something we have to seek out on our own. It cracks me up how some people will carry their duty weapon in those 5.11 undershirt holsters while flying, yet they've never practiced drawing from them at the range.

Not when I went through.

It is now, after I made firearms instructor and put it there.

Agencies should have these policies in place and conduct training to include off-duty scenarios and related off duty equipment.  The courts have already deemed administrations have an affirmative duty to train officers that they employ, in this very topic.  A failure to do so, and any injury or death to a plaintiff, can result in a personal liability of the admin.

No, but many of us tend to carry off duty, so its a valid question and area of training.

A Valid point.....
If you havent already acted out defensive draw from a normal/relaxed/ every day/ position your behind the your learning curve IMO,.... JMO,  I completed 1  5month academy in 80", but im sidlined now.~ You play full contact instead of touch sometimes you get hurt Tc556guy, did you understand my post??? I've 4 fingers out of 10, my typing skills are lacking. I'm no grammer nazi either, but agree bad grammer can make someone "appear" lacking otherwise.- Sorry to have gone off topic though-

Many officers have never had any training in the issue. Back on topic, and try posting in English next time........
