| Hello. I'm a college senior looking into law enforcement as a possible career path. I have been reading through a lot of threads in this forum and have gained some good information. I signed up for a test my local PD is having this coming Saturday. Any words of advise? What are on these types of tests? I talked to a few officers on the force and all they have told me is "its hard and has logic questions". I do pretty good at school and have taken my fair share of exams just not sure if there is anything I can do to prepare for this one. Also should I dress up for this? I know a suit is a must for the oral (if I get there) but what should one wear to the exam? Thanks for any help and wish me luck. |

Most departments will give you an interview/background check, psychological, drug test/medical, and a physical ability test. Some departments give a polygraph. All I can really say is dress professionally and be honest.
Very important.. when looking at departments always take into consideration the oppertunity for promotion, medical coverage, other benefits, and pension plans. Good Luck. |

My $0.02? Watch the way the questions are worded. Not all tests are traps, but I've seen enough to know to be wary of the use of "never" and "always" in the selection. And for the "reading comprehension" type question (where they give you a paragraph and you have to answer questions based off of the info within) make sure that you're applying the answers to the scenario being discussed for that section. Good luck. |

+1 to not being able to "study" for it, but you can definitely prepare by getting yourself in the right state of mind.
