I just found out my dept. wants me to go to FTO school next spring.  I checked the dates and its the same week as my honeymoon to Aruba.  If I cancel the class, God knows when I'll get to go again, these classes fill up quick.  I don't know how my future wife will take if I tell her that we have to reschedule the trip to Aruba....

Meh, FTO school doesn't teach much. They just told me I couldn't do a lot of the stuff I do in front of my rookie

Go in the honeymoon, My FTO school was 5 days that could have honestly been fit into 2. Plus rescheduling the class will prolong the pain of being an FTO, LMAO, no honestly its fun, LOL, just like marriage, LOL.

Around here they seem to run FTO schools about every couple of months and we have never had a hard time getting someone into one.

Have a good trip

Go on the honeymoon.  We need to take care of ourselves too, especially in the beginning of a marriage.  As much as we like the job, our home life has to come first.  That is what we are coming home to after our shift.

Honeymoon.  The fact that you would even have to ask worries me.  I'm a cop.  Have been for 15 years.  I can't imagine being anything else.  BUT its just a job.  When it comes to making decisions, always choose with your family and you'll never go wrong.  And nobody will ever question your decisions.

Don't let it worry you.  My family always comes first.  The only reason I even asked is because I have been with this dept. for a relatively short time.  The fact that they even want me to go to FTO school means something to me.  I've been here right at two years and I'm 25 yrs old, maybe they see some potential in me .

Are you kidding me?  Your honeymoon or FTO class(which was a complete waste of my life for a week).  You take a class over your wife and she's going to kick your ass.

Just my two cents but you need more than a few years before you start training.

Not casting stones but I agree 100%

At my agency you can apply after 3 years, but hardly anyone gets accepted that early, unless they worked somewhere else prior.

There will be other FTO classes, but if you are lucky there will be just one honeymoon. Work can wait.

Go on the honeymoon. FTO will always be there. If someone gives you a hard time about your decision, just remind them that they woud do the same thing if it ment some alone time with a 20-something female.

Two years ago I had a choice of taking the Lt's test or shooting with a bunch of guys at Camp Perry. The Lt's test will come again. The experiences you have doing what you want with the people you care about (Family and Friends) don't always work out that way. With all that being said, I can well imagine a honeymoon in Aruba is going to be a lot more memorable than a pistol match (Even the National Championships!)   Havefun swimming (and what ever else!!!!!!!!!!)

Take it for what it's worth, my dedication to the job was in part responsible for losing a 16 year relationship.  That won't happen again.

FTO schools are a dime a dozen and boring to boot.  You'll get another shot at it.  A Honeymoon in Aruba with the love of your life is a once in a lifetime experience (hopefully).

Where are you taking it..North Central, GPSTC, or Clayton. Honestly its a week of liability and counseling techniques. I would tell you to go with the family and catch the next one available. FTO is a great thing but there will be plenty of time to train new officers, if you dont go on vacation there will be tons of time, as the fiance will ensure that.

I'm scheduled to take it at GPSTC.  And for the record, I will not be staying on campus, I will get my own hotel room!!!

I'm not going to argue this.  It was a total surprise that they are sending me.  I didn't ask to take it, I came to work one day and the chief said that I was recommended by both my supervisors to go to FTO school.

You must be pretty squared away then. Good for you!
