| work for the VA as a Police Office. There is an opening at the local VA for Police Officer I was just wondering if you are an actual federal officer are just an security officer. Pay isn't really that bad. |

I just assisted a VA police officer the other day with an attempt to locate on a patient. We spoke about his span of authority and his limitations. He sounded frustrated to me. He ended up asking me to issue a BOLO at my agency because he could not enter a regional BOLO from his agency. The patient had a life threatening issue and fortunately we found him.
Sounds like there is a lot of red tape. |

+1 for the red tape. Some of the problems we've seen around here:
Cops for the VA and the Navy Base are FED LEO, but due to peculiarities with Illannoys LE training standards, they're not usually considered Illannoys LEOs, so if something involves off-base issues, they have to involve our PD. They've come to incidents in our town, but it's been more for crowd control/show of force, as their actual power is pretty limited once they're off the fed reservation. Since they're not IL LE, their nearest holding facility is the Dirksen Federal Building in downtown CHI. YMMV - I've heard of other states that allow local LE or SD to swear them in as Aux/Res PD/SD, but our state is different - in a bad way, of course. |
