While reading the "Tater Salad arrested" thread I see he made bond of 1000.00.

This got me to thinking. I rarely never carry 1k on me, even on vacation. If for whatever reason I wind up in the jug with my usual 30 bucks, will they take a CC?

Thanks.

Cash.  And that is why there are bail bondsmen.

Thanks. I helped (1/2) post bond for a kid at work YEARS ago. Don't remember the details, other than he didn't skip! I really had second thoughts since he had family in the Caribbean.

In VA, you can't bond yourself out, period. You can't use your own money to bond yourself out, you can't use property for which you are the sole owner, etc.

Dunno why, guess to limit skips.

eta- you can pay a bondsman with your own money, however. Here, the fee is usually 10%, which is non-refundable, as opposed to paying a bond yourself, the full amount is refunded upon completion of court.

Here you can use cash, or a credit card or a debit card if you have them when you are booked in.

If you bond youself you have to pay 100 percent of the bond.

If you go through a bodsman it runs anywhere from 10-20%.

I actually had someone in on a relatively smalle bond, prolly $250.00 or so.  They had their debit card and while they were processed the jailer took their card, ran it for the amount, and it was basically a process and release.

here in WI (Rock County at least) same thing, 100% of the bond and you can pay cash or CC or debit card and you can bond yourself out if you have the money/cards on you when you get booked in.

In this area, a $1000 bond would run $150 through a bondsman.  If you pay the full $1000, you will get back what is not taken for fines and court costs, when a disposition is reached in your case. We don't do personal checks or credit cards.

We accept credit cards through a third party service with a decent fee that goes to them.

Bondsmen is the normal method for higher bond amounts.

Unless the bail is CO (cash only) you can use whatever form of payment for like.
