| What calibres do your snipers use and over what distance would you realistically anticipate using each calibre? |
|
We deploy with an M4A1 5.56 with a TA31DOC ACOG and a bolt gun in .308. All of our bolt guns are Remington based actions. We have 5 Tango51's, a Delta, a Robar SR60 a 40X and a few 700's. We also have five .50BMG M82A1/M107's and one .50BMG Robar RC50. We mostly use Leupy's on the bolt guns, however a couple of our .50 Barretts and our Robar RC50 have Nightforce scopes. What distance? Well most LE counter sniper engagments are within 100yds and the majority of our deployments are within this distance. I think my farthest deployment to date was just over 300yards, which is well outside of the norm for us. |

Which calibres did you deploy at the respective distances, or was it dependant on target 'hardness', all calibres being sufficiently accurate at theese distances? |

American Sniper Association Letterhead request and fee for their Sniper Utilization Report, answers all of your questions and many more on sniper shootings in US LE. You will find nothing like it anywhere. VJ |
Our .50BMG weapons are more along the lines of anti-material as opposed to anti-person. They would be deployed in a shtf type of terrorist situation where defense of certain sites may be necessary. They could be used under certain circumstances in a call out, but that would be an extreme situation and would still be more along the lines of anti-vehicle. As for the .308's, our primary round is a 168gr FGMM Sierra BTHP. We do use a barrier round and our choice is the .308, 180gr Black Hills Accubond. I am also a part of the ASA and they are a very good resource for information. |
