I like to run on my off days and after work for fitness and stress relief.  I run along the river here and most of my clientele clings to this area.  I want to carry while i am on a run but need some ideas.  It is a toss-up right know between a Glock 30 and S&W 642.  Either way I need some ideas for carry.  For the most part I wear shorts with pockets and a running shirt.  I am pretty big guy, 6'3" 225 but need ideas about carry location and holsters.  I would prefer to keep the panny pack as a last resort.

Any suggestions/ideas would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Carried a S&W Mod 39 in a shoulder holster(gasp) for years while running.

Light nylon crap rig. Under the running shirt.   Alloy frame 9mm.   Hate to admit this.   But it worked.

Have you seen the 5.11 undershirts with the dual built in gun pockets?   I have no personal experience with them but they might work.

Tried a belly band.   Too bouncy.

Fanny pack/camel back brand with gun pocket is what I use now.   Not a good solution, but it's what I'm using.

Dept. requires Glock for back up so I get to carry the 27 and not a scandium S&W J frame while running.

Could get a baby jogger and put in a fake baby on top of an 870

The 5.11 undershirt is a good idea.  Also do you do any kind of maintenance go you do to the gun after a run?  Silicone rag?

edit: add maintenance q

When I did I used a fanny pack...  I could usually get it so it wouldn't bounce, but it was much easier if I just rode my bike (bike path goes all the way around the city).

I've got some of the running shorts with the zippered pockets for the gel packs and stuff, also I've got a cel-phone case that velcro's onto your upper arm.  I've put my Seecamp 32 into both of those, although I'm sure a kel-tec would bounce around less.

I've also done the bellyband thing, but it only works for jogging, not for running fast, the weight of the gun always brings it down.

I carry a government model while jogging. Same as always. Not comfortable, but whatever, right?

Since I bike and run out on country roads, it's often an consideration and still under research.

Ie, it's convenient to carry a pistol in a handle bar bag but if the bike is separated from me, so is the gun.

In addition to the clothes, my standard running gear is a camelbak and a high visibility vest. One could always put a gun in the camelbak but that's not too great for a fast draw.

So the research continues.

No one is allowed to laugh (out loud), but I carry a North American Arms 22mag with the folding grip and clip on it.  I clip it into my waistband and tie my shorts a little bit tighter.  Works great and don't know that its there while running.  Its a short range gun and only 5 shots, but up close they won't complain.

I'm not sure how accessible you'd want it but what about some sort of camelbak with some sort of small zippered pocket?

I usually just carry a neck knife, but if I had to carry a firearm while running, I'd go for my P3AT (or the new Ruger LCP if you're not a Kel Tec fan) with belt clip. Works fine on my athletic shorts!

As long as we are coming clean... I have one and love that little guy.  Weighs less than my keys.

Eagle fanny pack is the way to go.  I use one for running and riding bikes.  A shirt will easily hide the pack

What are you able to carry in that Eagle pack?  It looks like its specific for a S&W J-Frame(which is one of my options), you think a Glock 30 would fit as well?

That is a sleek lookin pack

I have ran many, many miles on this setup.  A pair of shorts or pants with a secure belt on them.  I use a pancake style holster (Bianchi auto lock)  and weave the belt over the outside of the holster, so it is riding on the inside of the belt.  I place a belly band under my shorts and belt for added confort and as a back up holster.  I had a cheapo walmart brand belt break at the buckle while running.  I had been running in it for 1 1/2 years.  Last week, I had the buckle on my Blackhawk CQC pistol belt break while running.  I had been running in it for about 1 1/2 years.  I was halfway through my run when it happened, so I was about 4 miles from my vehicle in town.    I put my G21 into the bellyband holster and used my now beltless shorts to overlap the gun and keep it in place.
The bellyband can be adjusted while running to help pad the areas that are rubbing you.  A single mag paddle fobus rides on the opposite side.  My running/carry gun is 9 times out of 10 my G21.  Anyways, hope this helps.

It's supposed to be specific to J frames and Glock 26/27. I don't doubt that the G26 model will fit the G30.

When I run and/or bike, I often carry a Glock 22 in a tanker holster from Eagle Industries.
